Do I have anal stenosis post anal tag removal?

Postby Bummed-In-Oregon » 13 Jun 2014, 23:29

I feel anal stenosis is the cause of my bloating for the following reasons:

1. My stools have been thinner than my normal since the awful surgery.

2. After the surgery the original non board certified graduated 5 minutes ago "doctor" disappeared so I had to see a colleague of his who was really rude and unprofessional. She examined me for 2 seconds and said I do not have anal stenosis when I asked her. She said my bloating was unrelated to the anal skin tag surgery and walked out the door on me telling me I can't ask her anymore bloating related Q's. So 8 months later I call her and speak with her when I call the after hours line. She claims she never mentioned stenosis! That's all we talked about! That was the entire 2 minutes she spent on me. Naturally it's not in her chart notes and she even hung up on me despite the fact I never raised my voice, name called, wasn't disrespectful but was assertive asking her. It's as if she's trying to hide it now! and the

3. when I saw someone for 2nd opinion recently, he said I have a lot of scar tissue. Scar tissue can lead to stenosis. Yet when I asked him if I have stenosis he said he couldn't tell! He said maybe, not sure, could be...or else you are tense due to the examination. Gee, that was really worth the $300 office visit. His office won't give me his chart notes either. But he did tell me during the appointment that I was wasting his time because there wasn't a surgery for him to do (meaning there wasn't quick and easy $ for him). He even told me to see a mental health specialist which is when I showed him my before photos when I went from a 23 inch waist to thirty whatever it is now. Seems to me he's trying to protect the original doctor. He spoke with the G.I. doctor I saw despite my explicitly telling him and his office to not share chart notes or communicate with my G.I. doctor, because I knew he would only talk trash and influence the G.I. doc, I never filled out paperwork saying it was Ok to do so, but I was certainly clear verbally and in email.

What do u guys think? How can my stools be thinner every single day that I actually go, and yet not have stenosis? The first follow up doctor who is at that clinic I get cut up should have at the time of the appointment that I don't have stenosis because of these following reasons ie the opening is within the norm of however many millimeters. She didn't back it up at all. And now she's saying it never even happened! I am so frustrated I have been crying all day at work. I don't know that it's fixable and I am so exhausted all the time carrying around this watermelon :(

Here is a woman who experienced what I am, and maybe I am headed in her worse direction, but she cured herself "naturally" with stuff that she's profiting from. Ugh, it frustrates me so much, I thought I found someone in my shoes who got better but I have no idea what her deal is now :(

I also don't know what to do about the painful external hemmerhoid I developed post surgery. Nothing over the counter works and I will shoot myself before I have another surgery again, as it is the internal ones are all back.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

I had anal stenosis with a circumferiential stricture following a hemmie surgery, and it took these geniuses about 10 months to diagnose it. Almost 2 years later, it is still not fixed... I really sympathize with your posts. Doctors DEFINITELY cover up for each other, and their notes are a complete fabrication and utterly worthless in my opinion. If you still have thinner stools 8 months after the operation, then stenosis is definitely a consideration. Have you had an exam under anesthesia? Do you have any other symptoms, painful BMs, bleeding? I had it so bad that I used to push so hard to go that I thought I was going to have a stroke. I tell this to my doctors and they LAUGH. When I finally did have corrective surgery, the surgeon told me my anus was so small that he could not insert a pediatric instrument into my butt without first making incisions to break the stricture. I would recommend an exam under anesthesia so that they can get a better sense of what is going on. My doctor put this off, and I wasted a year of my life being treated for fissures, when the fissures were caused by severe stenosis and no amount of creams and botox would've ever fixed me. I am very regretful about that.

As for the natural method online, I am very skeptical of that type of stuff. The internet is vast and 99.99% filled with bullshit. If you really dig into it, you'll find all types of self-help treatments people say worked for them. None of this is useful. If it hasn't been studied formally, with a sample group and a control, then there is no way of knowing its efficacy. Typically for stenosis they do advancement flap procedures. I've had one already but I don't think it was enough tissue, and I am most likely going for another in the next month or two if I don't feel 100% better soon.

Good luck with everything.

asdf I am so sorry for all you've been through. Gosh it makes me sad to see people who have been here so long. So much time, energy, $ and frustration and still no better.

The 2nd opinion doctor I saw charged hundreds for the visit and also $75 for a lab. I NEVER had a lab! Apparently them forcing me to take 2 fiber samples is what they are charging for!??! I even said I have better quality fiber at home!

I realize a lot of stuff isn't studied, but that also could be because the FDA doesn't take interest in alternative/homeo/naturopathic remedies. Frankly, I don't believe in them either....but should something actually work out there for someone, we wouldn't know because the FDA doesn't study it. I thought the cream mentioned in the article was one that someone used here? I do see how easy it can be to desperately fall for quackery when western allopathic medicine fails us.

So this stenosis can lead to constipation, fissures, hems, who knows what else. Ugh. I am in the minority here with this dang bloating though, since people with stenosis and even constipation aren't necessarily bloated.

Yes on painful BM's, forever after too. No blood. Blood just once months ago, bathroom looked like a massare.
I have not had an exam under anesthesia. I don't want them injecting me again though, with anything. I recently began putting on Nifedipine I wonder if it's OK to put in the bum too? I did a little bit since that's my pain more than the external hem. The 2nd opinion guy called it skin tag but if it hurts, how can it be a tag? The tag that was removed, it wasn't painful, this IS. But now that I have even more pain IN the bum, I thought I would put the cream there. Only half an inch in and wow the pain would make me pass out. Makes me wonder if that is as a result of surgery or the 2nd opinion guys exam. Or maybe it happened with the stuff they put in my bum for the hypaque enema recently? Ugh I don't know. I may end up like u where it just wont heal.

I really hope things improve so you can avoid another surgery :(

Hi, Any procedure you have on your bum can cause scar tissue. It doesn't stretch like healthy skin can and can cause tears when you have a bm. I got mine from hemmie surgery. It didn't cause problems for quite a while so I didn't realize it. I got a fissure that healed in about 8 weeks. I was alright for a while but got another one, this one didn't heal. I had LIS and it didn't help, it caused more scar tissue for me. I waited 5 years after LIS to go back to the CRS because I was afraid but I knew I was in trouble when my stools were as thin as spaghetti and the spasms were unbearable. I couldn't pass a small pea or a kernel of corn. I had double open advancement flaps done in april 2013. Technically I still have stenosis but it's now functional. I can have a normal bm. Recovery was a little tough but the fissure and stenosis were tougher and I still have a year to go for everything to quiet down but the surgery was the best thing I did. I should have never waited that long. The pain after surgery was manageable but I spent a few days in the hospital. When I went home I mostly used ibuprofen and only at night a half of narco. I still take miralax every night but only a little more than half a dose. I dilate once a day per my surgeons instructions, this helps to keep the muscle stretched. If you aren't healing or are having trouble passing a normal bm it's time to see a CRS and find out what needs to be done to correct the situation. Believe me waiting doesn't help. Wish you all the best Suzy. If you look at my past posts I did keep a journal of my experience with the surgery.
