How to get over fear of going?

Postby Mae » 02 Dec 2014, 15:53

This could be typical run-of-the-mill constipation but I'm afraid that it might be my own fear of the pain (there was pain last time I went) So it might be a psychological thing. I feel like things are moving down there so I go to the bathroom but once I sit down, nothing. Does anyone have any advice for how to relax? Also, if I were to take a laxative would the power of the laxative override the effects of my fear? I'd like to think it would, but I'm scared to take a laxative if it'll just make matters worse.

(Btw, I don't push, and I don't try to hold it in either. I actually do relax slightly. Just not enough.)

What is you were to take some pain medicine to help take the edge off (ibuprofen maybe)? Milk of magnesia is a gentle laxative that is well liked on here. Hope you get to go soon and it doesn't hurt.
