Yikes! Could this be a yeast infection?

Postby msimon » 18 Feb 2015, 12:36

CRS told me to apply polysporin to my incision area after my last surgery (for recurrent infection). That will be 2 weeks ago this Friday. I have followed this religiously but in the last few days it has started burning around and inside my anus like never before! It feels hot, and like knives whenever I try to move around, or even just stand up. It seems to be made worse by bathing, which sucks as the incision area needs to be kept clean and the baths were helping with healing, or so I thought. I haven't looked at the area but the surrounding tissue seems dry and almost scaly-like to my fingers. Something not quite right in a ring around my anus. I have used clotrimazole a couple of times and took a diflucan yesterday but I guess these things can take time. I suppose I need to stop the antibiotic ointment and that scares me as I have has so much trouble with this damn infection but 2 weeks seems like a long time to use it anyway, right?

I have gotten a yeast infection several times when on antibiotics and I know that is not unusual to happen.

How did you treat it W? Do you think antibiotic ointment could do it?

Sorry, no, what I meant was that I was using topical antibiotics...do you think that could have caused a yeast infection?

I did take a Diflucan but I guess it can take a few days to work. I am also using antifungal cream, which was fine but it burned my incision site really bad last night.

What a nightmare, msimon. Have you called your doctor? It could be a yeast infection or it could be an allergic reaction. My own impulse would be to stop all creams, soaps etc, as anything that causes burning is bad news. But since you rightly worry about an infection, I would definitely consult the doctor. Keep the area as dry as you can.
Ughh, I am so sorry.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.

Thanks Scientist. I am actually wondering if part of the burning may actually be due to dryness as it seems to get worse with bathing and feels dry to my fingers, kind of scaly and rough (around the butthole). I see my gynecologist tomorrow and will ask her what she thinks. I see my CRS on Tuesday. Hopefully someone will have some insight. I can hardly walk!

I'm wondering if you used toilet paper if it could have damaged the delicate area, then maybe the creams inflamed it. Let us know what your doctor says. Hope you feel better asap!
