Not chronic, but frequent acute...

Postby Mae » 19 May 2015, 10:48

I believe I got a new fissure today. Hard to know exactly cuz I'm on my period and the pain was not severe (it rarely is though). This is like my third fissure in the past year. They heal in their own but then I get another one as soon as I pass another hard stool. (I've been doing well keeping them soft but occasionally my period dehydrates me more than I realize)

Why does this keep happening? Is my body just more delicate than other people's or something? Because even a slightly hard stool can cause me to get a small fissure.

I'm just going to have to start taking miralax every time I have my period, as a precaution. I drink tons of water but I guess that isn't enough anymore.

I have had a Meta bar and a glass of Metamucil every morning for months now. But the other day I was having severe cramps/nausea and threw up all that perfectly good (and expensive!) fiber.

I'm just so annoyed that even the slightest bit of dehydration, or the slightest decrease in psyllium, can cause me to get another fissure!

Your tissue continues to be vulnerable for a while after it seems like you have healed. This is normal as it can takes months to years for that tissue to be at 80% of what it originally was. That is why it is always so important to make sure your stools are always soft. Do the fissures seem to be in new places or the same area? There is no issue with being on Miralax long term. Magnesium works well too. Metamucil may not be enough to ensure your stools hold enough water.

For the first two, it seemed to be in the same place. Posterior midline, but sliiiightly toward the left. This one felt to be more toward the middle.

I just try to be careful with miralax because I have a bit of ibs I think. Except I never know if I'm gonna have diarrhea or constipation. It's so frustrating.

I hear you! I have IBS too. I tend to keep my stools very loose as I find this allows me to hear the most. Everyone is different though.

I forget, did you get a fissure ointment prescribed? If not, maybe that would give your healing one last push...

No, the doctor just said to take metamucil and come back in 6 weeks if it didn't get better. Well, it's been almost exactly six weeks since then. So part of me wants to go back, but part of me is saying "well it DID get better. I just had to go and get dehydrated again".

Maybe I'll give it a few days and see what happens...

Yes thank you! My anxiety is coming back already. I keep telling myself "you healed it before, you can heal it again!" but anxiety usually isn't rational..

Yes, I suffer from anxiety too and this whole ordeal has really shot my nerves. Have you found anything that helps you?

Like many afflictions, doctors do not know root cause. I listened to my crs talk about Metamucil and no coffee...blah blah blah

I lived my first 45 years of life with no ass pain. Sure, I had bouts of constipation, bloating and all that like we all do...

It's kind of a mystery, I just pray we can find healing, I have zero faith in doctors. Many have found cure through surgery, yet I apparently do not need it.

For anxiety? I've tried so many things lol. Some work better than others. I pray, surround myself with supportive people, take long walks, meditate, and try to seek out new experiences, like exploring my city or getting out of my comfort zone in small doses. (Small doses of "conquering my fears" can be good for my confidence but too much can be anxiety triggering). The next step is therapy, but I'm pretty much broke right now so for now I just watch meditation/asmr videos on youtube and that kinda helps. XP I also have countless phone apps designed to help. Some are based on cognitive behavioral therapy.
