When to remove the skin tag?

Postby tightbutt5678 » 28 Jun 2019, 08:20

Hey all!

I have LIS next week! I am very ready for it! But I am wondering, should I:

- Have the skin tag removed at the same time as LIS
or
- Have the skin tag removed after recovering from LIS a few months later?

I have no idea which option is better in terms of recovery. I will ask my CRS on Monday but I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on this?

Cheers!!

:)

Personally, I would go with the first option because all surgeries involve risks such as those from sedation and infection during the procedure. I wouldn't want to put myself at risk more than once, if possible.

Thanks for your comment, chachacha! You make a really good point actually, I hadn't looked at it that way!

i agree with chachacha, just kill 2 birds with one stone. 2 surgeries is double the worry.

I'm sure you already know this but just incase- remember that just leaving the skin tag is an option. They shrink a lot after the fissure heals and typically aren't a source of concern, although some people do find them a little irritable. For me, my fissure started healing in a noticeable way a few weeks ago and at this point I hardly notice the skin tag even though it was quite prominent before.

Thanks for the input, bloodybum! I will talk to my CRS today to finally decide what I will do. Surgery is tomorrow so I won't need to think about it soon :).

Another thing I was told my another user is that if the tag is connected to the fissure, tag removal is better for the fissure. She said that the fissure won't heal unless the tag is removed because they are connected... Not entirely sure if that is the case. Was yours connected to the fissure?

I spoke to my surgeon on the phone today who was nice enough to call me back after leaving a message at his office. He reassured me that the skin tag removal isn't a big deal at all but ultimately it is a personal choice. It won't affect the fissure healing but I will hate him for a few days after removal lol. But he doesn't have patients calling the office weeks later with issues so he feels confident that I won't be in much pain. He does usually get calls from patients after hemhorroid surgery though, which is supposedly much more painful and a longer recovery. He said that we'd discuss again tomorrow before surgery, no stress. I feel much more relaxed now.

I have decided that I will say that my preference is to have it removed during surgery, but if he sees that it might cause any issues or complications, then I am also ok with leaving it. I know it is hard to see the fissure and tag situation properly until I am under sedation so am happy to just leave it up to him to see what's best when I am fast asleep! :)

24 hours to go!!
