7 months with AF.

Postby afugh!! » 01 Sep 2009, 03:21

Its been 7 months now that I have been suffering from AF and like all of you know it REALLY SUCKS!!!It took me a month to catch on it was AF because I thought at first it was hemmoroids which I did have and when the hemmoroids went away I thought the bleeding during BM's would stop and it did only because I was already taking metamucil for the Hems and I thought that I was not going to bleed anymore. So I stopped using the metamucil and three days later I was wiping myself after a BM and I saw blood on my tissue and I was like Image I never experience pain when I BM which is unusal for most ppl afflicted with this so I thought it was all good ti'l I wiped it.I went to webmd.com and read up on on the H-roids and found out about and finally understood what I might have.So I scheduled an appointment with my doctor and he confirmed what I had and was really bummed out,he told me to start taking citrucel instead of metamucil since it doesn't make you as bloaty, told me to eat a fiber rich diet, and prescribed me some hydrocortisone cream.so I followed his instructions and for a month I had no bleeding and I thought all is well ti'l bam I had had blood on the tissue when I was wiping after a BM.I don't know why I bled and I considered it to be a very easy passing of my stool.I forged on from the set back and I forged on after the set back and for 2 months I had no blood when one day I was just walking aroung outside when I felt something wet in my pants, first I thought I was just mud butting it because I cut a nasty angel gas prior so I just went back into the house since i figured I should deal with the crap in my pants but when I wiped it I was shocked to find out it was blood and I had it all all up in my crack and I even got some on my underwear too.Thinking back for the past 2 days before I bled I noticed my sphincter felt rather tight after I used a Tucks pad which I have not used since I had the H-roids.It took care of the itching but afterwards that tight feeling was there so I figured that is what caused me to bleed.went to the doctor the next day and he told me the fissure had gotten a little bit bigger and so he refered me to see a surgeon which I'm going to see in about 15 days.after that big bleed I have bled twice already last one being 2 days ago but from what I've read here I do believe it's because i've been stressed out about this whole situation and I'm now doing my best to stay calm.I just wanted to know given my situation would it just be better to tell the surgeon straight out to just to have LIS since its the most successful procedure and I'm looking for the closest thing to a magic bullet or should I try and go for whatever he recommends. At this point I'm so fed up with this I just want the LIS and I'm not really in the mood to try anything else especially all the bad things I've heard about other procedures.A little guidance would be much appreciated and sorry for the wall of text,I never really ever post on forums.

Welcome to the board! I think the tucks are worthless, good that you stopped using htem....and hydrocortisone will thin the membranes after continued use, and that may be why your bleeding is a bit more than average for most AF sufferers, although bleeding is a symptom of AF and is, of itself, generally not something to worry about unless it is profuse.
I commend your decision to go ahead and get the LIS -- I too finally decided on it after seven months and it ended my ordeal. While it is not 100% effective, it is close to that, and no other treatment is as effective.
Do take hot baths regularly and avoid junks foods, large meat dishes and stay hydrated. And yes, do stay calm...as you mentioned. In 15 days you'll most likely be scheduled for LIS and hopefully they won't make you wait long for that.

if the bleeding is on the heavy side, you might have a anal fistula, they can bleed heavy. just a thought. but very easily fixed, healing iss the longest with fistulas though ...

Thank you for the feedback.yes i stopped using the tucks pad a while back even if my doctor recommedended it to me primarily to stop the itching from the hydrocortisone but I never liked the tight feeling it gave me which is do to it being an istringent and probably the main culprit tearing the fissure open again. I've been taking 3 sitz baths a day and I generally apply the hydrocortisone afterwards and especially sitz bath-hydro combo after I poop. But since you say the hydrocortisone causes me to bleed more than average should I stop or limit my use of it?It surely helps sooths after a BM but I know that keeping the fissure dry is the recommended thing and using the hydrocortisone gives me an icky feeling down there.Well thank you for the feedback,I''m glad to have found this wesite and don't feel alone in my fight against this.Thank you once again.

well the bleeding was very spontaneous but I have since got it under control except for a couple of days ago when I was stressed out I guess and I bled a little after a BM.I can't really tell if its a fistula since its very hard for me to look down there but after the spontaneous bleeding last week I've felt a little bit of skin hanging which I have never felt before. But I figure I'm going to find out when I see the surgeon in 15 days and I'll ask him what the deal is.My problem now is thats it's very hot in L.A. and I work outdoors,it's hazy right now though since theres a huge brush fire 20 miles away but the haze is helping keep it cooler than it's suppose to be but the air quality is horrible,I work in the evening and hopefully I won't sweat down there as much.

Ya were kind of the opposite,I tend to bleed a about once a month(like a period)but I never had pain.I felt a little tingle when I had a little bleeding from BM a couple of days ago but thats about it.Well hopefully the surgeon will tell me what I want hear, like its not as serious as I think but I should get an LIS which is what I want to do.thats weird though are you sure your poop is coming out soft enough so you won't feel any pain?or atleast as much?Or do you fell the pain all the time?maybe yours is more serious than mines,if you can answer back it would be great,ti'l then good luck.

Hey there afugh, welcome to the boards (and sorry that you had to end up here).
I agree with the others, it sounds strange that you're not having pain during bowel movements with a fissure. AFAIK the usual hallmark of a fissure is major (make that MAJOR!!!) pain when pooping. That's how it manifested for me and most folks I've spoken with. I've heard that it can sometimes be possible to have a fissure without excruciating pain, so I suppose it's possible though.
BTW since you're in the heartland of porn :) (I used to live in West LA off Wilshire pretty close to Westwood Village so I know what ya mean), there's a highly recommended place in Beverly Hills for anorectal problems that might be worth checking out:
http://www.crhcenter.com/patients/locations/california/beverly_hills.html
I never had to visit them when I lived in LA, but now live in Nor Cal and have been to another one of the physicians in their network (they are all separate practices but adhere to a similar philosophy) and have had a pretty good experience. I know it's a ways from the Valley to Beverly Hills, but I've personally found that (A) good colorectal doctors are few and far between, and (B) each has his own opinions about what treatment is best, so it couldn't hurt to get a second opinion.
Good luck, please let us know how it goes!
