Almost Healed...some advice!

Postby pdt935 » 30 Jul 2016, 16:44

Hi all,

Just a quick post as I am on mobile and just in the tub now! Fingers crossed...but I hope to post a success story soon!

About ten days ago I got an appointment with my GP. Had been seeing general surgery anorectal specialists for my fissure of 5 months, and was told my fissure was pretty mild and to drink water and have tons of fiber.
My fissure was not as severe as some on here, but it kept me out of work for the last two months and really took away my life. Depression, losing close to 50 pounds (gym every day to bed rest...) the stress...we all know it.

Anyways my GP was shocked at how little was being done and was concerned I didn't see her sooner. All I had previously been prescribed was diltiazem (still using but it makes me itch, so toning it down went well today and had no spasms).

Here is what she put me on:
1)Constella for soft stools
2)Clonzapam (anti anxiety [benzo drug]) 3 weeks max

The BIGGEST difference I think was some of the advice I found on this forum. Look up the POSTERIOR BOWEL MOVEMENT SUPPORT TECHNIQUE. For fissures at the six o'clock position, it allows you to not let the back of your anus stretch as you have a BM. I'll try to describe it (there is also a toilet seat that does it for you) place 1-3 fingers in between your tailbone and back of the anus, and as you have your bowel movement gently push forward to prevent the stretching and tearing of the fissure. PLEASE read more on this, as there may be ways to do it better and you will find your "sweet spot" on your own.

All I can say is I am no longer afraid of going to the bathroom, and the combination of the above is really helping.
As I said I'm on mobile so please message or post here with questions/comments and I will expand on my experience ASAP.

Constants that may not cure, but help:
-apply coconut oil around anus to keep it moisturized/less likely to be dry and tear
-ozonated olive oil gently applied up the anus, then lay on your back for five mins so it stays in there
-diltiazem around the anus. I also lay on my back to let it set in
-MODERATE FIBRE. I have a small rant ready about doctors telling me to have tons of fibre and Metamucil, but I recognize everyone is different.

If I heal 100%, I'll post a success story. I will always be a part of this forum though. Please always reach out to me about ANYTHING. I've never felt so close to a community so THANK YOU and hang in there!

-PDT

PS. Sitting is going okay for me today, but would a medicine ball help more? Thanks!

Hi PDT,

Thanks for posting this-- lots of good advice. And congratulations on getting to the point where you're almost healed! I totally agree with you about moderating fiber. I've been gradually cutting back on my fiber supplement while continuing to eat lots of fruits and veggies and it has made my stool a lot smaller and easier to pass.

I'm really interested in the posterior bowel movement support technique, but I haven't been able to find much information about it through google searches. Do you have any more resources you could share? I'm kind of apprehensive about pushing or putting any pressure on my anus, so I want to make sure I get it right.

Also hope you continue to heal and feel better :)

Thanks! Here is the thread that has links to a product (first post) and a presentation explaining the 'poor mans' method (3-4 posts down). A few more posts down you'll see someone explain it. new-toilet-seat-heals-posterior-fissures-t6671.html

What I do is put my pointer finger right behind the anus (6 o'clock position) and then two fingers behind it supporting the "wall". Wear gloves if you want but I've only ever got Vaseline (which I use to live up) on my fingers, which washes off when I rinse clean with a shower head.

One more tip: rinse off in the shower after every bath. I would just get out of the bath and not cleaning probably didn't help.

Right now I'm pretty much back to normal, had a few small anus spasms after eating out twice and going to the gym twice. Was a little worried since it was a little painful, but I don't seem to have a re-tear thankfully.

Ask about constella! And relaxers if it's consuming your thoughts. Best of luck and hang in there.
