Anal Fissure

Postby Timbuktu » 10 Sep 2014, 17:50

So I got this last year once and saw blood with my stool, I ignored it, and never saw it happen again until this past week. The doctor said I was lucky that it went away the first time.

Apparently it is a anal fissure. It burns, itches and is painful like passing razor blades when taking a dump.

I had took 2 dumps a few days back, hard stool and there was blood coming out with it. I went to the doctor he gave me metamucil and senokot laxative. He said maybe it is a hemmie or a fissure. Then he scheduled me to see a colon-recto surgeon but never gave me any cream, moisterizure or topical cream to help the fissure heal, he just said to drink lots of water and add fibre to diet.

I came home, took the metamcuil then the laxative at night, next morning had a stool, was soft, no blood. But it was still burning right near the opening where the stool comes out from. It feels like a scar there, right at the opening of the anal. Had 2 stools so far and no blood. This morning went to do another stool and had a little of it come out with ease but when I wiped, there was a little blood on the anus, so it appears the bleeding is still there. Now I wait for my appointment to pop up to see the colonrecto surgeon while I deal with this nightmare.

So far I don't even know what is causing it, the doctor did not even tell me what it was. I came to assume that it is a anal fissure because it is exactly same symptoms. The biggest problem I am having is fear to go to the bathroom because I am afraid everytime I check there may be blood. Everytime I wipe a bit near the anal opening, there may be some blood it seems.

I stopped taking the Senokot after 2 pills but I am taking metamucil regularly along with a high fibre diet. But the burning sensation while passing gas is still there.

Does anyone have any tips I can follow, I read about extra virgin coconut oil, but I don't know how to apply it. Do I use my fingers? I have vaseline at home also. Should I continue the metamucil? And the senokot laxative? I stopped it for now but should I continue taking that? Is it safe taking metamucil every day and is it safe taking senokot tablets every day before sleep?

Hi.

I've had my fissure for nearly a year now. I've not heard of Metamucil, but I have heard of Senokot. I live in the UK so brand names/product names may be different if you are elsewhere in the world. There is a Germoloid spray that you can buy (over the counter, I think) that contains lignocaine which is a local anaesthetic. I found it helped to have a spray or 2 either before or after a BM. I also take Fybogel daily to keep my stools soft. Baby wipes instead of regular paper can help, even better would be to take a quick shower to clean the area. I'm surprised your doctor didn't prescribe any creams or ointments for you. You could always go back and have another chat, maybe even with a different practitioner? I had great success with the practice nurse.

Time to start caring for your bum! Good luck!

Thank you for the reply cracked82.

Metamucil is a psyillium fiber supplement.

I stopped taking senokot because fear of being dependent on it so I am only using metamucil right now. The thing is man, even if the stool is soft it still burns like hell when it comes out and I am afraid it may bleed again.

I live in Canada.

I wash that place with water after I take a dump with warm water. But it still burns. I can feel the scar or fissure right near the opening of the hole. It's right at the edge I can feel it man. It burns so much.

The doctor just put the finger in the hole and then took it out and said he didn't see anything.

Yes I am going to my family doctor tomorrow morning. The one I saw 2 days ago was a random walk in physician.

I really do not want to do surgery, I just want to to do it naturally with cream and proper food.

Also if anyone has used coconut oil or vaseline, do u apply it with ur bear fingers or wear plastic glove? And do you put it inside or just outside? Thanks.

hi,
i've been dealing with my fissure since May. Like you, I had a bout 10 or so years ago...it hurt but went away with change of diet. This time I wasn't so lucky. I would def see a crs and ask for ointment. Yes, you can use coconut oil. I just use my finger and gently apply inside and out. It is soothing. You can also use aloe, from a plant. That is also soothing. Drink lots of water and keep your stool soft. I usually put vaseline on right before each bm. Hope this helps! good luck to you!

Thanks for the reply jlm1.

I ate 3 prunes and applied organic virgin coconut oil to the anal opening area and we will see what happens next.

It's definitely safe to take metamucil everyday. I think senekot is one of the laxatives that can cause dependency, though. It seems like you're doing a lot of the right things to heal and get some relief. You should go see a colorectal surgeon for a definite diagnosis and prescription ointment. Hot baths after a BM always helped relieve my pain and spasms. I also liked to take ibuprofen as soon as I woke up so it would take affect before my BM. Try to figure out which foods will give you soft, formed stool to minimize the pain. It's trial and error, but browse around on here for some ideas. Foods and their effect are very individualized, unfortunately. The beginning stage of healing is so rough and stressful. We've all been there and can empathize - feel free to vent and ask questions. Good luck!!

Thank You for the response man. Yeah I stopped Senokot yesterday after taking for 2 days. I am going to take metamucil again. I am feeling much better talking to people who have suffered the same issue. To be honest, the first day I found out about it, I was depressed.

Yes I am anticipating to see the CRS, maybe I will get the appointment sometime this month if I am lucky. I would really really like to get a hold of that ointment that heals the fissures as soon as I can. It's just the blood man that makes me really hysterical and afraid. I really don't want that bleeding to happen again.

Yes, I am asking around, you will be surprised but these regular common physicians have no knowledge of this at all, people here have more knowledge than the GPs.

I hope it heals, I just started eating prunes, 3 of em so far before I go to bed, put the coco oil on. Hopefully in the morning it will be much better.

You're welcome! I know blood is a very scary sight, but try not too let it stress you. All the advice I've read here says that pain is a better indicator than blood. As long as your pain is decreasing, you're healing, even if there is still a bit of blood. Most of us have ups, downs, and setbacks. I hope your morning goes well.
