I just got another kit. Same one as yours from amazon. My other dilatory were hard plastic. Bit too painful and I was worried about tears from the hard plastic.

What size have you worked up to so far?

I did not use them I am too afraid..if it hurts with just my finger cant imagine using one of those things

I am using the small pink one. Mine doesn't seem much larger than a finger. I am finding with regular usage my sphincter doesn't seem so tight when I have a bowel movement now.

So when I go it seems to come out more easily with less straining. So in theory I could see how this could help with healing.

I think without dilation your sphincter is going to remain very tight. Did they botox your pelvic floor only? Or sphincter as well?

I only got Botox to the pelvic floor but in December I will also get it in the sphincter...

Persevering with a dilator (and I could not even get my pinkie in without agony in the beginning) is really worth it. I did it for about a year, very gradually increasing the sizes of my pediatric dilators. An absolute godsend. And, of course, I used an organic lubricant.

I am using a water based lubricant so should be fairly safe. Did it actually help with the chronic pain?? Did you get an overall improvement with your symptoms?

Hi all! I didn't see a response to the person who asked if the dilation hurt from Dr. Cranford. I am going to see him in a week and I am hoping it will go well, I have faith! I am thinking I might need the dilator set too...Thank you!

I'm back to trying delegation again and I've just got a beginners butt blue. It's squishy and tiny. I actually cope ok with it for a few minutes.

The very best for me were the Pediatric dilators. Excellent! And organic lubricant. And, of course, my trusty Sitz Bath.

I'm 2 years out from double advancement flaps and I still do dilation. I don't do it on a daily basis anymore but a few times a week. It really does become easier the more you do it and it helps. I use the hard plastic ones but my surgeon said you could always use a tapered white unscented candle. Clip the wick off and use some lubrication. The taper on the candle makes it easier to use. Once you get used to doing this you can use your dilators better. If you are having spasms dilating can help stop the spasm, it breaks the cycle.
