Hello everyone, I've been reading the stories posted here and I admire everyone for their courage in dealing with these anal fissures. I really wish that there was more sympathy and understanding about the anxiety involved among doctors. I was diagonsed with a fissure back in early February. The primary care doctor sent me to a colon rectal specialist who said that I should try Nifedipine ointment and come back for a follow up in three weeks. I noticed some improvement and continued on the ointment until the follow up. At that time he told me that I was healing slowly and to just continue using the ointment. Since then I've had some issues at home that have created alot of stress and since then I've started feeling a pulling sensation again and increased blood after bowel movements. This forum has helped me understand these fissures alot, and I wish all of you the best.

Hello and welcome to the forum George.
This is a great place for support and information. I have learnt so much from reading posts and understanding all the different ways painful symptoms can be alleviated.
I too have suffered awful anxiety due to the fissure, and feel that most drs don't understand the impact a fissure can have on your whole life and outlook.

Good to hear of your progress. I do hope your Dr. stressed the importance of a well balanced diet and water increase along with the ointment.
Please, keep your stools soft.
The last thing we want to hear is that you had a terrible set-back from a hard BM. Believe us, we have heard it many times before.
