D & H Tips and Tricks Series Pt. 4 Diet

Postby Deleted User 3925 » 13 Nov 2014, 23:40

"If your work is sedentary, take exercise every day, and at each meal eat only
two or three kinds of simple food, taking no more of these than will satisfy the
demands of hunger."—Letter 73a, 1896 {CD 110.5}

"When properly prepared, olives, like nuts, supply the place of butter and flesh
meats. The oil, as eaten in the olive, is far preferable to animal oil or fat. It
serves as a laxative. Its use will be found beneficial to consumptives, and
it is healing to an inflamed, irritated stomach"
.—The Ministry of Healing,298, 1905
{CD 359.4}

"Olives may be so prepared as to be eaten with good results at every meal.
The advantages sought by the use of, butter may be obtained by the eating
of properly prepared olives. The oil in the olives relieves constipation; and for
consumptives, and for those who have inflamed, irritated stomachs, it is better
than any drug. As a food it is better than any oil coming secondhand from animals."
—Testimonies for the Church 7:134, 1902

"Intemperate eating is often the cause of sickness, and what nature most
needs is to be relieved of the undue burden that has been placed upon her.
In many cases of sickness, the very best remedy is for the patient to fast for
a meal or two, that the overworked organs of digestion may have an opportunity
to rest.

A fruit diet for a few days has often brought great relief to brain workers.
Many times a short period of entire abstinence from food, followed by simple,
moderate eating, has led to recovery through nature’s own recuperative effort.
An abstemious diet for a month or two would convince many sufferers that the
path of self-denial is the path to health." {MH 235.2}

"Our diet should be suited to the season, to the climate in which we live, and to
the occupation we follow. Some foods that are adapted for use at one season or
in one climate are not suited to another. So there are different foods best suited
for persons in different occupations. Often food that can be used with benefit by
those engaged in hard physical labor is unsuitable for persons of sedentary pursuits
or intense mental application." {MH 296.2}

"The effect of cheese is deleterious."—[Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene,
46, 47
] Counsels on Health, 114, 1890
{CD 368.6}

"Old cheese should never be used. Cheese not more than three months old made
of milk from which, the cream has been mostly taken, is most easily digested.
But, of cheese in general, it would be well for all to keep in mind the old adage,
“Cheese is a mighty elf, Digesting all things but itself.” {HBH 191.1}

"The best time for drinking water is undoubtedly when the stomach is empty-on
first rising in the morning, and half an hour or an hour before meals, or three or
four hours after a meal. There may be conditions of the stomach which require
drink at meals, but, as before said, this should be done when the food is out of
the mouth, and not to wash down the food. Those who have weakened their
digestive powers so that their stomachs will not bear cool water, should commence
with a small quantity, gradually increasing the amount, and thus accustom
themselves to its use." {HBH 198.2}

" We invite all our readers to improve their diet by eating granola and nut butter,
and by drinking caramel cereal. They are the great food correctives for indigestion
and constipation. {WV 346.9}

"Granola can be made by anybody who will take wheat-meal, oatmeal, and corn-meal,
or any two of them, cook them well, then make them into biscuit, and bake them
thoroughly, let them get cold, and then grind them or beat them up fine."
{ARSH July 25, 1899, p. 476.11}

Note: Caramel Cereal is a coffee substitute forerunner of brand name "Postum"

"We need to study the art of preparing in a simple manner the fruits, grains, and
vegetables. We do not need these complex combinations that are provided. As the
matter now stands we are in danger of making dyspeptics".— Manuscript 150, 1905.

Reading all this, she really was ahead of her time on most things. It's amazing to think that she came to all these conclusions before medical science was around to back them up!

Sure OMB

She was indeed a Visionary in the truest sense of the word. Because
her insights on health and Religion came from a Higher Power in the
form of dreams and visions. Read all about that here...

My Dad suffered for years with hemorrhoids and finally had a sphincerectomy
back in his 30's. After that surgery along with strictly following her advise is a
very healthy 84 year old taking zero meds.

Unfortunately, my mom on the other hand still has a very poor diet and at one time
her colon burst from impaction prompting a colostomy pouch for a time. Luckily
she was able to reverse it to remove bag but her daily meds for pain and bowel
control are incredible.
