Day 8 Post LIS Report

Postby sidra1968 » 12 Aug 2009, 11:30

Hello all, worked a lot the last 2 days so I wasn't on yesterday at all, Still feeling really good, basically went the last 2 days without even thinking of my butt. Went miniature golfing and walked around a lake - driving is ok when on ibuprofen.
Still on Miralax 2 times daily. Took it only once yesterday and my bm this morning was almost normal. Actually I don't want it to be as of yet, so back to 2x. At least there wasn't any pain.
There seems to be a lump around the incision site, but it doesn't hurt so I'm chalking that up to just the way it's healing. My only pain at all is a few intermittent shooting pains maybe an hour or two after a bm and once in a while a dull bruised feeling that goes away in 15 minutes with OTC painkillers.
To to sum it up... still very happy with the surgery.. Yesterday I couldn't believe that it had been only 2 weeks since my intial, pleading phone call to the CRS and ONLY 1 week since the surgery - and here I was working 12 hours and playing miniature golf...feeling completely normal and most importantly, WENT ALL DAY WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT MY STUPID BUTT!!
Hope everyone is doing well today!

Hey now stop taunting those of us who still have to think about our butts 24/7 :)
In all seriousness that's awesome to hear, I don't think I could think about any kind of physical activity right now, whether it be miniature golf or just walking down a flight of stairs like a normal person.
I'm curious about the incision site: is it something you can visually see, or feel? Just wondering how far inside it is that you're able to discern a lump there. And when driving, what kind of pain does it cause? Is it the same pain caused by the fissure (mine hurts pretty bad sometimes when I'm driving), or is it pain from LIS?

I know, I'm sorry..just trying to give hope to you and maybe some lurkers.
I can't honestly answer your questions though. I feels to me that the incision is on the outside , but I haven't really physically looked. It just "feels" that way, if that makes any sense...I'm gonna ask when I go for my follow-up, but that's not till the 24th.
As far as driving, that never really bothered me in the first place (well, no more than anything else did). I just happened to notice that I was sitting normally while driving with no pain after having taken 4 ibu's to help with the bruised feeling.

It's will be a year in October since my surgery (LIS). My fissure healed quickly but I still sometimes get residual pain from the surgical cite. Not always but sometimes especially if I have too many bms in a day or diarrhea. The CSR said it's scar tissue and it can be very tender for some people. I've been taking the miralax for over a year now and I don't know what I'd do without it. I have a mild narrowing of the anal canal from hemorrhoid surgery years ago and I think that's why I tore in the first place. The LIS has helped but I don't want to be having normal sized bms. If I have any trouble again I might have to have a sliding flap anoplasty but when you already have scar tissue the doctor doesn't want to create more unless absolutely necessary. That's why he wouldn't remove any skin tags. Those little buggers can be dormant for a long time and then a bad bout of diarrhea and they wake up screaming for a few days. Glad you're recovering so quickly hope everything keeps progressing well for you. Suzy Image

Wow, thanks for the info Suz...sounds like what I'm dealing with. I feel great in general, life's basically back to normal..just feel hard scar issue at the incision site, that yes, gives me a bit of pain after a bunch of bm's in close proximity or if I've been sitting straight on it for a while (like on bleachers)..but nothing that can't be taken away with a few ibuprofen!! And nothing intolerable like the fissure pain..more of a discomfort/annoyance type pain. Glad to hear this is normal and may go on for a long while. I can live it.
Like you, I also am scared to death of a normal sized bm..been taking the Miralax hoping to prevent it. My body seems to be getting "immune" to it though, gonna have to up the dosage. BTW, it's on sale and with a rebate at Walgreen's this week (the big size)
Thanks again for your info, very helpful (and similar) to my situation.

You have to adjust the miralax sometimes. Most of the time I can take the regular dose but sometimes I have to take a little more for a while. I also take benefiber. Miralax is great but getting the right amount can be tricky. Stress and the foods we eat can play havoc with the bowels so it's a fine line we all walk.

Hey Ladies !
Maybe try vitamin E for scar tissue it helps keep the area soft and supple too Image

Finding the correct amount of Miralax if very tricky indeed. But most "normal" people have variations in their bowels from day to day also!!
