feeling down

Postby sputnik » 30 Jan 2012, 14:51

hi everyone, just feeling a bit depressed. Last couple days burning a bit more and a pressure feeling, not sure how to describe it. But what's hard for me is I have ibd and had this problem before the fissure. Anyway checked last night and the 2 skin tags towards spine are bigger and cover anal hole. To the left is a small purple hemmi, i am quessing. I had it a couple weeks ago and it went away. I put some prep h on it. Another problem is that i am not gaining weight, the last 3 weeks i have increased my diet for thepurpose to gain. I haven't gained one ounce. Seeing dr. on thur. It may be casued by my ibd. I have on and off been having hard stool but i haven't pushed for 4 months. HOw could a lhemmi pop out if i didn't push. I quess it's from the occasional hard stools. I am going to have to cut some foods out but hate that as i will lose some more weight. I try to keep some extra weight incase i get a ibd flare up. I did add meats 2 months ago but i have stuck to not eating chips, popcorn or seeds. I know from all i read here to keep to the diet but i need some extra weight. I am going to cut some foods out, i don't want hard stool. Also could the skin tags cause some slight pain on buttock and down leg. Also could the purple lump not be a hemmi but a skin tag.

Hi Sputnick,
I've been reading how Hemmies can be caused by the same thing that causes fissures, a too-tight sphincter.
Also if you have loose stools a lot your sphincter will stay smaller if it is not stretched regularly.
(I wonder if this is my problem)
Anyways, these might be things for you to consider and ask your doc about on Thursday.
Is your doc a colorectal surgeon or a GI?
The burning pressure sounds like mild spasms, from how other people have described it.
It's hard not to get depressed. It sure helps to have this forum though! :D
Make a long list of things to ask your doc.

thanks for replies. I am seeing gp tomorrow and will ask about the sciatica. I have not seen a crs or gastro dr. yet as my gp said its not needed. If he does refer it will take about 5-6 months for appt. But my general surgeon said he will refer to gastro for my ibd when i want. I;m delaying it as i know he will order a colonoscopy and i just did one in april with the general surgeon. This guy also toldme to come back to him in 6 months and he'll do the lis, that was 3 months ago, but if i have to get one i would prefer a crs. I'll post my dr. visit tomorrow.

saw gp today and he looked under tags and all he said is two skin tags, nothing else. No purple area. He kinda of argued with me becasue i am always getting him to check there so i totally forgot to tell him about sciatica. He made me so mad, he always makes like its nothing from day 1. He wouldn't refer to crs, he says the fissure is gone.

That just sucks!
How can he tell for sure without a scope?
If you still have symptoms then he should take you seriously.
I hate GPs that don't take you seriously. Why can't they just take the time to explain why they think it's the way they do?
Do you have a GI who could refer you to a CRS?
Or, you could tell the GP that you want to get the skin tags removed, and then he would have to refer you...

well he said if it comes to removal, the general surgeon would do it. I could pressure him and know he will refer me but it will take about 5 months for my appt. I could of done that from day 1 and my appt would have been coming up but i was hoping it would heal onits own. when i first had mine i could see it but not see anything now, does that mean its healed. I do get burning bum but i did before the fissue with my ulcerative colitis. when i mentioned this to surgeon in april, he saw no ulcers or inflammation in rectum(colonoscopy)and said the burning was possibly from spicy foods.. I got the fissure this last sept. Its hard for me to know where the burning is coming from, either the fissure or the coitis.

It's probably the single most frustrating thing about dr. visits... To be in pain and to have that pain dismissed, as if there is nothing you would rather do in a day then haul yourself into a doctor's office and expose your most vulnerable of places and lay your vulnerabilities under a bright light for inspection. I'm thinking you would have felt far better about your visit had the doctor simply admitted he wasn't seeing the source of your pain and so he would like to refer you to another doctor who might be better able to make an assessment. Instead, the patient leaves the office feeling invalidated and even more distressed than before. One scenario you leave feeling worse... An alternate scenario you leave feeling hopeful, like you have a team on your side who cares about your health, comfort and well being.
Keep hanging in there... Keep coming here and opening yourself to encouragement and support from people who understand your pain, your frustration, your setbacks, and your just wanting to be well...
sending you a warm hug of encouragement and thoughts of comfort and peace.

It is hard to know the source of the pain.. Fissures can actually be too small to be seen, even by a doctor. Still, you are having burning pain ... Whatever the source of that pain it needs to be more thoroughly investigated. If it's spicy foods causing the problem that is easy enough to test out and report back on. If it's your IBD, there are options for addressing that. If it's a fissure there are other options. But the CRS is going to be the best specialist for making that assessment.
