Foods/Drinks to avoid, I'll start ...

Postby ukguy » 02 Aug 2012, 16:05

Nuts - monkey nuts, peanuts
Crisps (potato chips)
Spirits (whisky, brandy etc)
I have no idea why crisps would do that. 60 seconds in the mouth and they go soft, so what's the problem? Seems to be a correlation for me though.
Any others?

Personally, I try to stay away from too much fiber.
And, anything that tastes bad.

It's funny you should mention fiber. I have nearly eliminated fiber. For whatever reason it makes everything worse. And the biggest for me for whatever reason stool softeners block me up like brick wall go figure. The two major do's are don'ts for me.

Meat
Pasta
White rice
Any cake, cookie , pastry, etc.
Breads
Coffee
Alcohol
Cheese
Popcorn (DEADLY)
Pomegranate (little seeds are VERY abrasive)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Needless to say - all of that was OUT of my diet for many , many months until I healed 100 % Image and I was never constipated to begin with - I just wanted to make sure my poop is "at optimal" texture and softness level Image LMAO
PS: fiber can make your poop extra bulky !!! I would suggest eating natural fiber (veggies and fruits) and adding soluble fiber or Miralax to make poop softer Image

I will second that,
popcorn is deadly, so is red meat and alcohol,
also cranberry juice seems to make fissures worse.
no coffee, soda, candy, white rice, corn, tomatoes, or cheese.
nothing fried (chicken or fish included)
basically if it doesn't grow on a tree or plant or from the ground don't eat it!!!

You pretty much nailed it, other than I was able to add chicken, turkey and fish back to my diet months ago with no issues. But when I was actively in the healing phase I had eliminated meats altogether.

I think eliminating coffee, soda, and alcohol to be a priority. In terms of fiber, I think it's fine to eat whatever you are comfortable with. Maybe give that broccoli or nut an extra bite before you swallow.
You should increase your fluid intake and fiber intake as well. If your body cannot process popcorn, nuts, or seeds, then something is wrong.
Fiber isn't supposed to be digested, anyhow.

White rice and white bread can both be constipating because they are very refined starches/grains with VERY (or no) fiber in them which makes it difficult for the gut to digest (as well as fatty foods).

I eat whatever I like, basically I've given my Fissure the middle finger and it doesn't like it (sometimes)...
Just as long as I get a fair amount of fibre in there then things are pretty good for me with poop consistency, the real nightmares begin if I have sticky poop or a tummy bug, that sticky poop KILLS ME Image
