Someone mentioned primrose oil, I take the capsules with primrose oil and vitamin E which really helps with periods/cramping etc. Have been taking these for a long time. I asked the CRS why I always get re-tears around my period time and he said its probably because everything inside swells and moves a bit so it upsets the fissure :)

I think that could play a big part in the healing or not healing and needing another LIS. I think the fact you're not having the spasms says a lot about healing being able to take place still.
I'm going to keep reading and see what I find, but I'm with you Alpine, I think this needs more time to heal! I think it's just being slow. I wonder if scar tissue could be causing it to be more stubborn Image I wonder if they would have smoothed it down when you had LIS if it would have helped with the healing?! But who knows! Steve did have a fissurectomy and has had the same things happening...hmm
That's good your periods are regular. I have never been very regular but I can usually tell when they are getting close because I cry at the drop of a hat when it's about that time

You know I never really thought of it that way, that not having spasms might mean I could still heal! That's a great, positive thought, thanks for pointing that out. And thank you for sticking around here to help people! I tend to think that fissurectomies suck and I've always thought Steve might've fared better without having that procedure, but just the LIS. When I retear now, it isn't actually the original fissure site that's retearing, but a new spot. I don't know what that means, but I feel like I've still got a somewhat tight sphincter, despite the cut. Oh well. And yes, I'm a crying mess before my period. The morning I started my period I sat in the bath crying and reading a book... Image My husband needs to vaporize during that week, his presence is so irritating! And I DO have a happy marriage, just sayin'.
Sue, I've never tried the evening primrose. Does it help with the retears, or just the cramps? What about mood swings? I really need something to even out my moods and stop the tears!

I have found it has helped with alot of things. It has improved the healing of the fissure (although that may have been the vitamin E in the tablet). My fissure began to improve a month after restarting the tablets following an operation. I have found I don't get as severe cramps, plus also found that it's helped with my mood. I felt really upset and angry like I could punch someone! This used to last for a few days, I still get a little bit teary but its alot better and the slight teariness lasts for a day at the most. Worth a try! :) I really hope you feel better soon or find something that helps. There's nothing worse I know! Image

Yes vit e and vit c does help in healing a fissure. I didn't know until the doc gave me vit c after I'm diagnosed with a fissure.

Thanks for the advice about the evening primrose, Sue. I'd heard of it before but for some reason I never have tried it. Who knows if it will help with the fissure but I have plenty of PMS issues, breast pain, and achy joints in my back plus hormonal breakouts...wow I sound like a mess!
Anyway it's buy one get one at Walgreens right now, so I'm going to try it.
Dwarfs I do take vitamin c and I have some vitamin e oil I could put directly on the fissure. It didn't help me at all before the surgery, but maybe it will now?

hi alpine, yep, it's only a suggestion. For me, i persevered with the vit c daily even until now when my fissure is healed, i haven't been sick since i got my anal fissure half yr ago. For me, vit c helps in healing wounds, builds up immunity, so it still helps you to a certain extend no matter what. Vit e oil i've tried but i couldn't as it give me itch, maybe cos mine is not pure vit e oil, it comes tog with safflower oil too.

Well, so far so good, I started taking the evening primrose oil as well as some triple strength fish oil. My tear has stopped bleeding and feels totally healed, of course that is probably just because my period ended rather than being due to the supplements.
I'll be back here to post next month's results.

Hello everyone.... I have got the same problem. Always few days before my period the area gets very irritated and my BM`s get harder and are hurting. Before the dilitation the skin breaks were retearing for sure before my period. Yesterday I have got my period the first time after the dilitation and I had a large BM 1 day before. It was swollen and irritated/sore afterwards. I am not sore if I had little skin breaks again or if it was only sore, but what a luck it is better again today.....

Evening Primrose oil works for me, I hope it helps you too! Next month will tell you for sure, think it takes a few weeks to take effect :)

This is my first period since my fissure started to heal and about teatime today I had a slight BM with no pain but afterwards I have felt a sharp pain around where the fissure was no stinging just feels swollen with no bleeding from the Anus. I used my sitz bath twice afterwards and put on some PJ but I am still aware of it when I sit down or stand up :( Does this mean a full retear or slight retear I am terrified it is going to go back ot how it was before. I have been reading on here that this can happen when your period is due or you are on it I feel so scared now for a BM tomorrow and what the night may bring pain wise :( Any suggestion please x
