Hal-RAR / halo surgery for hems

Postby Flaneur » 27 May 2014, 21:52

Hi, I'm new here, currently suffering from a fissure which I think has been on/off since before I had a baby at the start of they year. Anyway, it all started wi some nasty thrombosed hems, which my doc lanced, and I then went and saw a CRS. He did the HAL/RAR surgery (called halo in the UK) and I'm 90% sure the hems have gone. I wanted to mention it as it could be a great option for those considering a full hemorrhoidectomy but who can't take the recovery time.
Next up is dealing with the fissure, which I wish the CRS had sorted out while I was under getting the hems done :(

Thanks for the information, Flaneur. I'm sure it will be useful to somebody.
Good luck with the fissure. These things can take a long time to heal, but if you look after yourself, eventually you'll get better. Keep posting, and let us know how you get on.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

FF, I'm not sure how much it is in the UK, as I'm in Australia. I paid around $1500 out of pocket, and my private health fund covered the rest. I'm finding it was worth it for the hems, but now I've had botox, the extnal hems are playing u again, so I'd get the fissure under control and then deal with the hems.
