Tll,
I can assure you from what I've read and researched here, that fistula surgery is not at all as painful as hemmorhoid surgery. Having also had a superficial fistula, which was deroofed and left to heal naturally, I found the recovery was very smooth and a year on or so, there are no signs I ever experienced this issue.
The full recovery took about 2 months and I did not have a Seton place, such as Rich described above, but posts advise that although a little uncomfortable, they are not painful & it is just a case of slight adjustment to them.
The main thing is, the surgery is not really painful, recovery is generally very good and recurrence low for Fistula sufferers.
I chose to take about 10 days off work post op, but at a push, probably could have been back sooner.
You will feel so much better a few weeks post op & not having to worry about any of the horrible stuff you are right now because it will all clear up.......Just pop back anytime for any reassurance & it's great to read Kathy's post above because I have followed her progress from the start to hopefully, pretty much nearly the end & she sounds like she is in a so much better place these days!!
Just get it over & done with & you really will be on the road to recovery. Wishing you all the very best :)
