Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone here has used Fluconazole/Diflucan to treat vaginal, or other kinds of thrush? If so, has anyone experienced problems with constipation after taking it. It comes as a one dose oral (pill form) treatment for all kinds of thrush infection.
I fear anything at all that could cause constipation ... obviously I guess!

I have taken Diflucan/Fluconazole numerous times, but I have never had a problem. If you are really worried about it, and are willing to try a different medicine, I would suggest terconazole. Though it is a bit messier, it is very effective.
If not, well. I would just make sure that you stay on your high fiber, drink tons of water, and talk to your doctor about it.
I don't know how sensitive to medications your body is, but I have never had a problem.

I'm male but we can get yeast infections too. I've taken Diflucan 150 mg a bunch of times over the last few months and it's never caused any constipation (or diarrhea for that matter) for me. I do take Miralax (Movicol) every day though. Diflucan actually has nearly no discernable side effects for me aside from maybe a tiny bit of nausea the first time I took it. Everyone is different, of course, but for what it's worth, I'm usually very sensitive to oral drugs and this one doesn't mess with me very much at all.

I tried it, and it went fine. No constipation, or any other problems.

I forgot if Auckland is in NZ or Australia. :roll: Were you affected by the earthquake in NZ? I read about it on the internet. If I took a trip there, no doubt they would have another one during my trip!!

Yeah, Auckland is in New Zealand, but it in the North Island. The affected area was mainly in and around the city of Christchruch which is in the South Island and a very long way from Auckland. So, I wasn't personally affected. I do have quite a few relatives living in Christchurch though, but they have all reported in safe and well, and so far as I know at the moment, no major damage to any of their homes. My elderly grandmother does have essential medical equipment that requires a power supply and (stupidly!) does not use a back-up battery. Last I heard though, power had been restored to most of the suburbs. Apparently the city centre really got it the worst. Lots of old buildings that just fell to pieces. Fortunately Christchurch isn't a hugely population dense place so there aren't alot of apartment buildings and such in the inner city. The quake happened at about 4:30am, which seems to have been a good thing. If it had happened at 4:30pm there would have been a lot of people hurt or worse.
Auckland doesn't get a lot of earthquakes, but it is peppered with around fifty volcanoes.
The places we build cities eh!

Thanks for your explanation with details. What we read in the newspaper is not always accurate!! Still would like to take a trip to the "down under" area. Had to cancel the one we had planned for 2007 because of my butt issues.

Just wondering if anyone has taken a course of Fluconazole/Diflucan?. I've just been prescribed 50mg a day for 2 weeks. I've only taken it as one 150mg tablet just the once in the past and that went alright, but I'm a bit worried what a course of it will do.

About a month ago I just finished a course of 200 mg fluconazole daily for 12 days (yes you read that right).
And over the last half year, in addition to that, I've also take a total of twelve 150 mg tablets spread over time, usually 1-2 tablets per week.
What I can tell you is that a course will definitely have more side effects than a few tablets taken here and there. Taking one or two 150 mg tablets a week resulted in nearly no bothersome side effects for me. But taking 200 mg daily for 12 days did a pretty good number on me: lots of fatigue, dizziness, and noticeably greater stomach upset resulting in loss of appetite. 50 mg daily seems like a manageable dose and I wouldn't expect it to be *too* bad, but by the end of the 2 weeks I'm guessing you'll have some noticeable fatigue at least...
Oh, and if it matters, even when I was taking 200 mg daily, I still didn't really get any constipation or diarrhea. So at least there's likely not much to worry about on that front.

I've just taken my first dose, so we'll see. I'm pleased to hear that about sconstipation and diarrhea as that was my main concern.
The doctor I saw about this was lovely, but just full of bad news. In addition to the medication, she also gave a couple of other instructions as well ... No more baby wipes and, HORROR ... NO MORE BATHS! Well, I kinda knew that was coming by the way she screwed up her face as I told her about my daily routine which includes at least two long soaks in the tub a day. I had, of course, realised that hot baths were a no no with thrush, but they help the fissure so much! I'm no longer able to use Rectogesic due to side effects. Now no baths either! Which only leaves one thing in my list of coping strategies - soft poop, which I have, at least for now, happily achieved for the most part.
