I am trying my first dose of Miralax as we speak, in my chai latte. I can't taste it at all even though the powder smells an awful lot like Elmers white glue. I took half a dose thus time to see how it goes. For me, loose BMs hurt the most so I thought I'd start with half a dose and adjust as needed from there. Do you use Balneol after BMs? I've looked everywhere here and can't find it (I guess it's not available in Canada) but I've heard such good things about it it might be worth you picking some of that up too for the soothing qualities. I really hope things turn around for you soon.

Call,
My fingers are crossed and I'm praying the miralax helps you as much as it did me:)
I read fissys LIS experience on here and she had to stop the metamucil with her 2nd LIS because it caused the stools to be too big... I've never been able to take it, even before LIS Image
I bet with all the swelling and stitches things are pretty tight down there. I'd take the valium (1/2 a pill) right when I woke up before my bm and that helped me to relax when going.
I don't know if you read any of the older surgery posts but there was another woman- Jen (I believe) who tore at three weeks after her LIS. She did heal so don't get discouraged! Image Image

I wanted to add: Give the miralax about 3 days to get the full effects. I had always taken it here and there and didn't think it was that great, but NG(another boardie) had told me to give it a few days and he was right.

This has helped me more than you can know. Thank you.
As for the miralax, I'll start trying it tomorrow. Tonight's dinner was green beans and carrots. Yay... Tomorrow, lots of fruit and veggies. Fingers crossed I can heal it all up.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Call. I hope the miralax helps you. I think it helped me achieve what sphinctersaurus called "Miracle Soft Poop" - which maybe should be the new name of Miralax! (Sorry, I shouldn't make you laugh).
Everyone takes a little different dose of the miralax. I take 3 tb (about 3/4 of a sachet). I started out taking just 1/2 a sachet, and this was good but didn't quite cut it. In retrospect, I think I should have taken the full sachet (full dose) to begin with and then cut back. For me, one full sachet causes me to go to the bathroom 2 or 3 times a day - 3/4 sachet is just right (for me) with one bathroom visit in the morning. It's a little bit "Goldilocks" trial and error. Everyone's a little different.
PS - the sachet here has a total of 13 g of the active ingredient

This is my problem and why I can't tolerate Movicol, firmer and bulkier stools seem to pass better and cause very little discomfort, which is why I now take Fybogel every day with much better results!

hi, stevepain, i agree with you about the fybogel making the stools soft yet bulky seems to pass through a lot better [if you know what i mean]! as i posted 2 days ago when i got a little worried about not having b.m all day i took another fybogel and soon went so i have now increased mine to 2 drinks of fybogel per day that seems to have done the trick so at the moment it is my life saver. speak soon xx

Hi All! Quick update. Since the 'tear-scare' on Thursday, I've been really taking it easy, and even switched to miralax. Friday was a continuation of Thursday, with firm BMs, but not hard. It felt like razor blades, as it did with my fissures. However, after taking the miralax, I had a lovely pain-free, soft BM in the morning yesterday, and basically diarrhea all afternoon. Ooops. I guess 3/4 of a pack was too much. :-) I switched to a little over 1/4 of a pack this morning, so we'll see how that works.
As of right now, I'm a happy camper. My stitches are starting to fall out/dissolve, which is weird all together - they look like little white worms when I wipe. Kinda of scary when not expecting it.
The pain is considerably less. I only get short periods of aching, and with the stitches coming out, I feel a slight bit tender in the skin of my nether regions.
Tomorrow, I will be returning to work. So we'll see how sitting all day goes. :-)
Thanks again to everyone for all of the support!
Much love and thanks!
Jenn

I'm really happy for you! You were in such pain just a couple weeks ago, so it's good to hear that the healing is moving in the right direction. Good luck going back to work tomorrow! Bring a pillow! Image
