meds and suplemants to avoid ???

Postby Fissulyna » 16 Dec 2007, 19:00

Hi everybody,
I am having my LIS in 4 days and am wondering if any of you that had any anorectal procedures done were told by your doctors to stop using any meds or herbal supl. or vit. ?
Also, were you given any prophylactic antibiotics before the procedure ?
Thanks a bunch in advance Image

I am almost sure you should not take any fish oil, flax oil, or vitamin E before surgery as they all can interfere with clotting. If you do take any of these, you should probably check it out with your Dr. tomorrow.
Good luck with the surgery, hopefully this will be the end of this long and painful road for you!

There was a whole list of things I was told not to take. The list included that mentioned above, as well as echinacea, multivitamins, and pretty much all non-prescription supplements.

Fis,
I had to stop Fish oil at least a week before. I also could not take Advil,
Ibuprofin or any blood thinners like Coumadin. I would call the nurse and ask them. With any surgery they should have given you instructions. Also you can't have anything to eat or drink after a certain time so ask that too. Good Luck!!! I will be thinking of yah!

Thank you all so much !!!!Nobody called me back today , and I am pissed off, to say the least : / !!!!! I know that LIS is not like colon reconstruction or operating on stage 4 cancer patient, but HEY, I don't need unnecessary complications - right ??? Luckily, I looked on the net about colorectal surgeries guidelines and found same what you said girls - thank you sooooo much !!!!! XOXO
I stopped taking all herbs and vit., and the only concern now is Relafen, antinflammatory that I take for my Fibro. I called today my doctor friend in Europe and she said that this one is not blood thiner, so it is OK to take it.
I was told not to eat or drink after midnight but my surgery is 2 pm - does that include water too ???? I will completely dehydrate till TWO pm : ((( !
Do you know does it include water - not even a sip ????
Thank you so much for the info and well wishing !!!!! Image Image

hmmmm, i think water may be okay.
i am surprised that a pre-op hospital nurse has not called you fiss to go over these details with u.
with regards to dehydration, i think they can fix that with the IV you'll get the good sleepy stuff in.
sweet dreams and calm days ahead for you.....i am sure everything will go smoothly and pretty soon, you'll have a baby's bottom again!

fissulyna - i was told i could eat nothing after midnight the night before, and only clear liquids up to 2 hours before surgery. double check with your doctor's office, but i'm sure they'll tell you water is fine...just stop drinking all liquid 2 hours before your surgery.
