Movicol (macrogel) now making me bloated - advice?

Postby SueMac » 14 Feb 2020, 11:08

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? Just to note that I lost my login to the forum and when I googled I could not find the support forum page at all. I don;t know how you contact admin but perhaps we need to be making this appear in google searches a little easier?
Eventually I found an email from the forum when I set up my account.
So if anyone knows how to contact admin please let me know!

Been on movicol for months even a year but seems recently to make me now bloated, windy and need to go more often Maybe three times a day. BM make me sore I like to keep to one a day. I have the chocolate flavour at the moment. I like the taste but wonder if the flavour could be the cause of increased bloat/wind/urge to go? Any ideas would be fab.

The flavour shouldn't have any particular effect - maybe try reducing the dose or even skipping a day's dose if you are taking the Movicol on a daily basis?

Glad you were able to make it back to the forum!

Thank you. I’m trying fybogel instead to see if this might help reduce the bloat.
How are you doing?

I'm going reasonably OK, I guess. I've grown used to living with the discomfort of this condition, and don't give it much thought any more. It would be nice to live without it, but at 75 I'm lucky to be here at all!

Pregabalin, amlodipine (for BP) and macrogol - that's it.

Dmcff after I sent that I thought it was a bit rude to ask what meds you are on! I meant for your fissure problems not in general as that’s a bit intrusive!!! So sorry. So do you think the pregabalin makes a difference? Reason I ask is that I’m on 60mg amiltripyline and have found some but not amazing benefit. My gp has says we can increase dose or there are other drugs we can try. I guess each person responds separately to a drug anyway if reviews online are to go on. How well tolerated are side effects on pregabalin?

No, not rude at all - amlodipine is the only medication I take that isn't connected with my AF. At first I wondered if it would clash with the other meds, but it doesn't.

Pregabalin has definitely made a difference to me and how I feel in general. I started on a fairly low dose, but am now on 300 mg a day - which isn't really all that high. The pregabalin takes the edge off the pain and discomfort, and quite often I feel almost completely pain free. I don't notice many side effects, apart from a slight muzzy-headedness in the early morning.

A few years ago I did try amitriptyline, but it didn't have much effect on me.
