I have tried metamucil but I like the ratio of soluble/insoluble and the acidopholis in the fibermucil better.:)

No need to be sorry. I ask tons of questions when I am trying to figure something out.

I think it is a relatively normal thing to get small tears. Not often, mind you, but I think everyone gets one every now and then. My significant other seems to get a small one once every 6-8 mos. But these are small, cause him no trouble, and heal up withing a couple of days. I bet tons of people don't even realize they get those small tears.

I used to get small tears about the same frequency as him and they caused me no trouble; they didn't even hurt. I would dab neosporin on them and they would be healed by the next day.

I can pinpoint why I have my current fissure problem 1) way too much stress, especially early inthe morn (which causes me to get a bit constipated), 2) biggest, most dehydrated poo I've ever had in my life--we're talkin huge enough to make a Texan proud, 3) not taking care of myself the first few days after I got the tear--no cleanisng other than TP, no neosporin, 4) a week or so of constipation after huge poo #1.
