Hello,
Please forgive me as I am a bit embarrassed about my situation and such. I am 31 years old, I have a bad AF where it had gotten to a point that I couldn't actually go for up to 6 days and had to visit the hospital A+E to sort out my problem. I have now been regular (The hospital visit was about 3 - 4 weeks ago) and I have been on Movicol to ensure I am regular.
What I am coming on here to ask though cause I am still quite young and living a healthier life, is there any issues with being on 3 Movicol a day for the rest of this year? I obviously don't wish to go through the agonising pain I went through the last time I had to pass without aid of Movicol. (I have a history of having constipation til I was introduced to movicol for the bleeding.)
Any tips?

Hi Jared!
I know it can be embarrassing, but really, we're all here with the same problem so this is a totally safe zone for anything and everything. Movicol is generally thought to be safe for long term use because is not a stimulant laxative and as such doesn't work on the nerves of the bowel. Of course no one can know these things for sure, but for as much as doctors do know they generally say it's fine.

Thanks. The weird thing about my fissure (With piles as well.) is that it only became very significant from November last year (2011) due to the fact that I went on a diet. Before then, I used to eat unhealthy junk foods laden with grease and fat and such right, but when I decided to get fit and healthy (And lost 3 1/2 Stone!), my bleeding and pain became unbearable with it amounting to me having to go to the hospital a couple of weeks ago. Is this cause I changed my diet lately and that the grease laden food was basically, if you forgive me for being rude here, sliding straight out when I passed stools whereas now the foods I'm eating are considerably healthier and not greasy death traps?
I just find it weird that the bleeding has gotten worse since then before I got onto 8 sachets of Movicol after going to the A+E and then going to 3-4 a day now. It just kind of defies logic for me that when one gets healthy, their bodies decide to throw a fit.

That is the thing, if what you mean by eating healthier has meant an increase in fiber and a decrease in fat, it could very well have caused your constipation problem. While no one would advocate eating junk food, there are ways to balance your diet out with healthier forms of fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, flax oil, and others. Fiber will add a lot of bulk to stools and will also absorb a huge amount of water. So if you do eat more fiber you need to drink a lot of water to accommodate that. But even then people who are prone to constipation sometimes can and do continue to have problems with too much fiber actually causing constipation, instead of relieving it.
I'm not certain any more that fiber, fiber and more fiber is the holy grail we've all been told it is.
