New, but not new to fissures

Postby rcericks » 09 Jan 2022, 21:41

Hello!

I have colon cancer, which led to a hemi-colectomy, (after an initial ileostomy and reversal).

I also have anal fissures, which is currently having the most negative impact on my life.

The latest colonoscopies show I have a dilated, tortuous colon, which is usually the result of severe constipation.

But, I have not had any solid stool since my colectomy. (not sure the doctor believed me on that though, as they said it must be breakthrough diarrhea).

They prescribed Miralax, Diltiazem cream, lidocaine, along with fiber, sitz baths, and using my bidet.
It seems to help at bit,
but, I have chemo every two weeks, which often results in frequent runny stools, and by itself slows healing time.

I find myself putting off eating, not from the chemo, but for fear of having to run to the bathroom once again.

Glad to have found a group, but so wish that we didn't all need to be here.

I’m so sorry to read you are going through so much at the moment.
Try to put a blob of Vaseline on your anus before a bm… it helps to protect the skin.
