Peanuts

Postby sugarspice » 08 Nov 2013, 13:53

I have read that peanuts have soluble fibre in them so have bought some for snacks. However I have just been going through this 'Diet Tips' part of the forum and have found lots of people saing avoid nuts!! Is this right? Def won't eat them if that's the case!

Thanks in advance!

Yep sugarspice

That sure seems to be the consensus here. You'll also here others sayin
as long as you chew them well they did not experience problems.

For me it was the salted variety that I could not eat.
Unsalted nuts pose no problem for me. I'm a bit surprised I haven't
heard others say the same. All that salt draws water from you.

Perhaps somewhere down the line this would be a good food for you
to slowly introduce as we talked about in the other thread, and
to then track any bm change.

Better safe than sorry......

Definitely better safe than sorry! I bought the salted ones too! They are now safely in the hands of someone who has no fissure :-)

But peanuts are not nuts. They are peas (or beans).
So while some people have trouble with nuts and others have trouble with peanuts, and yet others have trouble with salty things.................you don't have to avoid peanuts if you are avoiding nuts in general.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.

We hear you Scientist

Yes peanuts are in the bean family but alas, they are by some considered one of those "spiky"
type foods that we must chew well or else. Same consistency as real nuts.
They say the same about tortilla chips and the like.
Go figure.

Oh.....spiky. Well, that makes sense. But I think tortilla chips will get soggy enough in the stomach not to worry about them.

Sugar,
I love Nuts and have no issues with them if well chewed, at all.
My biggest weakness are the Salt & Vinegar flavoured Peanuts, which are addictive but worst of all actually leave my bum a bit sore from the acidity after passing them!!
It's great to develop a disciplined diet & cut out the crap that your body really doesn't need (deep fried chips/ greasy pizzas/ stodgy pastries, cakes etc.) but don't deny yourself everything - It could be that nuts actually work well for you & they are good for you too in small quantities, so don't dismiss everything completely - a small handful of nuts could cause you no issues at all. Just remember to keep everything in moderation. I did fall into the trap of eliminating pretty much most scarey things when I got my fissure, lost too much weight, but actually after time, began to realise that some of the things I'd first cut-out, were actually OK and sometimes helpful.......dark chocolate in moderation, being one of these!!........Keep that food diary going and don't be afraid to try things too - just don't overeat them until you're sure :)

I too am losing weight but like you say once on track with the diet I can add things. I was overweight by 20lbs anyway so I'm certainly not wasting away lol. Did you have botox and how long before you healed?
