Okay thanks so much for your input. I'll be posting throughout the week of how I'm progressing. I'm hoping and praying for a fast recovery though. I already took off 2 weeks for work JUST in case but hope to be back at the 1.5 week mark. In other peoples experiences, is this an adequate amount of time before I can jump back to doing regular every day things?

Hi everyone!

Surgery went well, I needed to have both the fissurectomy and sphincterotomy done because my muscle was very spastic down there...my surgeon ended up leaving my internal hemorrhoids alone. Im on m way home now and still feel a little loopy, but I am hoping for a fast recovery. Doctor is confident that I should have no problems with continence. Thank you for all of your thoughts, inputs, and prayers! I will most definitely update throughout this week. Thanks again!

Great news, Scared! Look after yourself, and definitely keep in touch.
:goodnews:
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Hello all,

Quick update: almost exactly 24 hours since I went under, and the pain is manageable with ketorolac(anti inflammatory/pain reducer). I was also prescribed oxycodone but have not needed it yet. It has been very important for me to take the ketorolac every 6 hours as prescribed though because the pain is pretty intense without it. I have not had my first BM yet, but hoping it won't be terribly painful. I've been eating oranges, some chicken noodle soup and honey nut Cheerios. Ill give another update later on tonight!

Glad the surgery went well....the trick is to stay ahead of the pain for a few days ...I did not take oxycodene as I wanted to avoid the constipation...the first bowel movement is not as bad..wish you a speedy recovery..

Thanks a lot for the warm wishes everyone...I'm day 2 post op and still have not had a bowel movement. I keep eating lots of vegetables, fruits, and soups but nothing is happening. I've drank a considerable amount of water too and took 2 stool softener yesterday. At this point, should I take a laxative? Surprisingly enough, I haven't had much pain since I woke up today.

UPDATE: Day 2 mid morning:

I had 2 bowel movements without pain!! I know this sounds gross, but for the first time I went, I went in my sitz bath and emptied the contents out. The second time, I went an hour later without the sitz bath and it was well formed but hard to push out...I've had NO BLOOD whatsoever. I've had very slight pink/clear mucus discharge but that's about it. I pray that this is the worst of it. I can deal with the slight discomfort and at this point, I am hopefully optimistic ill be up and about in a week!

So happy that things are working out great....a word of caution...do not try to rush things...make sure you are one hundred percent before you resume regular activities...and do keep up on the fiber ,water and softeners...for a while...lots of luck.
