Hang in there FissureHome. I had a fissure about six years ago. The CRS said you must have surgery. Your fissure is so bad it will never heal on its own. It took months and months to feel better--and nearly two years to fully heal. I had a good six years and now am dealing with a fissure again. In ways the progression is similar to what I previously had--but different too--so I can't predict the outcome. I am not sure that I will ultimately succeed this time, but I am not ready to give up--or for surgery. It is definitely in your favor that you are young and in good overall health. The regular soft bowel movements that you are having is a big positive. Yes, a little improvement each week is what most afflicted with a fissure can hope for. Of course, there are worse things to have--but this affliction is frustrating and definitely discouraging, and given the nature of it, requires most people to suffer in silence Don't give up yet!

Would you believe it took me a good year, actually a little over a year to heal completely, My doctor/Gastro, Doc, had title me as acute fissure with mild Diverticulitis and a couple of hemmies..(sounds like and a partridge in a pear tree..lol.)
Please read up on all the posts in this forum on fibre and it's placement to healing, soluble and insoluble.

You can read my post ," The road to healing", as well. Its been over a year and Iam getting stronger every day..no pain, but I still have an occasional IBS bought , some hemmies flare up, over all it's under control, I eat my soluble(acts like a sponge, absorbing toxins) first then follow with insoluble foods (has a brushing motion and sweeps out the waste).
Try cooking with coconut oil, and a good pure unprocessed virgin olive oil, combine the two, too make a healthy stir fry, two natural lubricants for the colon that works over time.
Remember no question is stupid...Oh vay , when I remember the question's at the time I asked when I was in pain and suffering...I do know, although I didn't have any surgery , I didn't think I would ever heal. but I did, and your situation sounds familiar to mine, so I know you will heal..it's just gonna take time and there will be set-back's. be patient, you sound like your healing slowly.
Read all post pertaining to fibre. Take care we are all here for ya. This is a great forum to just YELLL OUT LOUD..lol.Vent away! :huggies:

Hi Fissurehome,

When I started reading your post I was thinking that I should post my story too, about how Dr Wheatgrass helped me, but then I saw it helped you too! It really is awesome stuff hey?

I was suffering from an AF for close to two years, using a local anesthetic (Lidocaine, etc) to dull the pain, but it would only work for 30 mins and then burn like I had a sword up my butt. I eventually realised it also kept my butt raw and slowed the healing!!!! I pooped every three days and by day 3 my butt felt 100%, as in not even sore at all. But then I had to eventually poop and the sword was back in again. I went to see a specialist who said that surgery is the only remaining way to fix it and I booked in an appointment (almost 6 months in advance, just as well, as by the time of the surgery appointment my fissure was better and I never went for surgery!)

I started reading forums and I think I found out about Manuka honey on this forum and eventually about Dr Wheatgrass as well. So I made a checklist of things to do every day, did it religiously and my fissure got better in a month, after more than two years of near suicidal hell!

I started applying raw honey (Manuka Honey, google it) to my butt, just a tiny bit, into the anus. It itched like mad for 5 mins or so, and then subsided. After a week it started healing a bit! In the meantime the Dr Wheatgrass was in the mail and as soon as I got it I started applying. A VERY small amount, inside the anus, every day. Eventually it healed after years of agony!

Here's my checklist, as I remember it. I hope it helps someone like it helped save my life :)

i) Drink LOTS OF WATER throughout the day
ii) Take MOVICOL in the evening (or half packet morning, half packet night). This stuff is amazing and won't cause a dependency, so you can keep using it. I eventually stopped, but will have one now and again when needed. Don't ever strain to poop.
iii)Make sure you POOP DAILY! Don't skip a day! Super important. It really hurt to poop, but it did more damage when I skipped a day to try get a bit of relief. This was very important to ensure proper healing took place.
iv) Apply MANUKA HONEY, or even better, DR WHEATGRASS SUPERBALM. And apply a little every day. They have fast delivery to Australia and a lot of other countries I think.
v) I apply a touch of high quality COCONUT OIL to my butt after every poop. Coconut oil is amazing stuff, helps speed up healing and has an awesome lubricating effect as well. I also take a lot of coconut oil in my smoothie every morning, not sure if it helps, but I have a feeling it does :)
vi) This might be a bit TMI, but here goes: When I poop, I first fold a piece of TP and press it up against the fissure, which is at the back (posterior). I have a prolapsing rectum, this way I can push slowly (no straining) and ensure the rectum does not push out. It only prolapses a tiny amount, but that's all I need for the fissure to tear again.

So far everything works fine. Every couple of weeks I'll have a bad day where my butt stings a bit but then I'll just put some coconut oil on and the next day it's better again. I really hope this info helps someone. Feel free to message me if anything is unclear.

Good luck with the healing Fissurehome!

Regards,

Hi. Fissurehome. I am so sorry that you are still struggling. The Lis may be the answer for you but as you know it takes a long time to heal naturally so if you dont have Lis don't give up you may yet have success as you are disciplined and doing all the right things

Fissurehome I am glad that you seem to be getting better each day. That is the road to recovery! Are you still planning on LIS or are you going to give a natural healing process more time? Soon I will be approaching the one year mark and am wondering if I will ever completely heal. I have gone from frequently in Terrible pain/occasionally uncomfortable/and seldom pain free to frequently uncomfortable/occasionally pain free/seldom In Terrible pain. I guess that's progress but I feel as If my recovery has plateaued. I am doing everything I possibly can but I am starting to give up hope. Each time I think I am close to healing I really am not. I can live with this but i want my old life back.
