Rectiv

Postby fissure75 » 15 Jan 2014, 17:26

Just began Rectiv yesterday for a recurring anal fissure. I have had two internal lateral sphincterotomies, with my most recent being about 15 months ago. I thought I was in the clear, but apparently not. Just want to know if anybody has had success with this ointment.

Hi, usually nitro is given prior to surgery. I've never heard of it after surgery. LIS should have relaxed your muscle. I had LIS and unfortunately is didn't help me. I had too much scarring so I had double advancement flap surgery almost 9 months ago. In that surgery they removed a lot of the scarring and the skin tags and the fissure itself. It's a longer recovery but well worth it. Sorry you're still having trouble. I wish you the best. Suzy

Thanks Suzy, the surgery actually worked for about 15 months until this reoccurrence. I used a lesser nitro cream prior to my last surgery with no luck. Hoping this one works since it's stronger and from a drug manufacturer. The last was a compound mixed at my local pharmacy. The doctor said we caught it early this time, so hopefully the cream works. Fingers crossed.

I used retrogestic (nitro) and stopped it on the 8 week mark. The doctor never said to stop it at that time but the leaflet with it stated to discard after 8 weeks so that's it's life once opened I think. Think it has helped but not in the clear yet. If you are considering using it for longer I would ask the doctor first, just in case, unless they have already stated to use it for longer. I think you're at greater chance of side effects if using for longer, such as skin irritation.
I believe some here have used it for longer than 8 weeks (nitro)

Have you had any other tests done? Crohns disease can cause reoccuring fissures even after LIS.

Hi, the way to use nitro is you use it for short periods of time then skip a few days and then you can start it again. You body can get used to it that's why you stop for a few days. Most doctors give you a time frame and usually if you don't heal within 6 to 8 weeks they don't believe it will help you. It's only purpose is to relax the muscle enough for the muscle to relax so a normal blood flow returns to the area so healing can begin. Suzy
