Citrus, dairy, coffee

Postby Apes » 13 May 2014, 07:48

I have a 1/2 a latte in the morning, fruit smoothie with benefiber. I have an AF and had Botox 8 days ago, I have never been constipated. My main problem with my BMS is I go to frequently which I'm addressing with eating less fiber, seems to be working.
Why do I read so much that citrus is bad? My smoothie is strawberry, banana and pineapple.
Thanks in advance for your response.

I think because it might sting/irritate the fissure like lemon juice would hurt a wound. I don't eat much citrus but when I have, hasn't been a problem. Other things I avoided at first by re-introduced and haven't caused a problem: limited dairy (just not a lot of cheese), chocolate, tomatoes, nuts. Much happier having these things in my life. I've left out the red meat and breads as those invariably slow down my system.

Thanks, it's weird what works for some and not others. Constipation has never been a problem for me ( knock wood). I actually think a little chocolate is good, nothing processed. Finding the right balance of things, especially fiber, is the tough thing. Feel good and thanks again.

Apes,
Just to add that I have no issues with citrus either, although I restrict dairy (especially warm melted cheese) & too much pure orange juice (as vinegar & spicy foods) can sting on occasion when passing out! but I eat lots of Bio yogurt. Chocolate causes me no issues, in fact a good dark chocolate brand, high in cocoa, contains some magnesium, which helps produce softer stools, so I relish the fact it creates this effect!! It's a challenge figuring out what works but keeping a food diary really helps too.
