Weird question...

Postby charlize10 » 20 May 2014, 17:49

Hey everyone. I was diagnosed with a fissure about 10 days ago... what a nightmare!!!! Been taking a fibre supplement, lots of water, lots of fruit and veg and luckily I work from home so I've been sitting on a hot water bottle and taking a couple of hot baths during the day. Things seem to be getting a *little* bit less intense down there as of today... I think..

So I have a weird thing going on that I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced.Besides the discomfort of having a BM I'm also struggling to pee! I'm peeing a lot more than normal because of all the water I'm drinking and my bladder permanently feels a bit uncomfortable because of it. When I sit down it takes aaaages to relax enough to pee and when I do it comes in stops and starts and I often feel like I haven't got everything out properly. I'm pretty sure it's not a UTI (no other symptoms that might point to that... seriously... I hope!) Anyone have any thoughts? Is it just part of all the muscles down there spasming and generally behaving strangely?

It would sometimes hurt when I peed and I'd feel some weird random tightness in there. I'm female, btw.

Hi Charlize,
I'm guessing some pain-generated tension and maybe some fear of pain inhibiting you from peeing. I often felt as though I had a UTI, with my fissure and I think it was referred pain and tension - didn't have trouble peeing though.

It's really amazing all the different ways we fissure sufferers react to this tiny cut.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

I have had a similar experience. I think the massive increase in water along with the spasm is the cause. I have had trouble peeing and have had pain in that entire region. My body has since gotten used to the amount of water and if I pee when needed and don't hold it in I'm fine.

--Right?? All for something that is basically no worse than a paper cut! Feeling so much hatred and embarrassment towards my body right now :/ Haven't done any proper exercise in over a month thanks to this and other health issues... exhausted because I'm not eating enough because I'm in pain all the time... aarghh

Have you been to a CRS? If not I recommend you go. Don't be embarrassed you need to take good care. Turn to the forum whenever you need to, it will help. Finally, your going to have to be patient, it takes time.

Yeah really glad I found this space! Haven't seen a CRS but have been to my GP - I live in the UK and seeing a specialist of any kind here is very difficult, you have to get a doctor's referral and they are generally reluctant to do that unless it's an emergency or they've exhausted every other option. Even then it can take up to 2-3 months to get to see someone. (Unless you go private, which is really expensive.) On the upside though, yay for free social health care :)

Don't get me started on Health care in different countries. Can anyone get it right??? You have to wait 2-3 months to address a problem that is so painful and here in the US I can an appointment in a week but the cost is so high.

Hi Charlize,
Also in the UK :)
If you think things aren't feeling any better soon, please go back and demand a referral! and as soon as you can (even if you have to change your current GP to a more sympathetic one!) If your fissure becomes chronic, it's truly best to get a proper diagnosis and you will need some medical help to deal with it. GPs just do not have the same specialised knowledge as a CRS. It depends on where you live as to waiting times, but I was lucky and my appointments were about a 6 week wait. I would try to put some plan into place just in case it all lasts for longer than you are anticipating - (although fingers crossed, it won't!)
I do think that Scientist is spot on with her diagnosis too - the stress & fear of "releasing" anything in that area, even pee, will produce the reaction you're describing - I suffered this now & again too and have no other medical issues there.
