How to know if it's cancer or a fissure

Postby Lisak789 » 16 Jun 2014, 20:24

I'm in a panic! I have had a "fissure" for almost two years now. Some days it feels better and other days it's horrible. A year ago I had a colonoscopy and it showed everything was ok except for some internal hemmroids. I just had a digital rectal exam by my doctor on Thursday and he gave me cream to try. It just worries me that it won't heal. It hasn't gotten bigger but not smaller either. I am so scared its cancer. I am 36 and my doctor assured me it's not cancer but I am scared he's missing something! So does anyone know the difference between a fissure and anal cancer?

Thank you so much!

If you had a colonoscopy and doctor says it is not cancer I would say its safe to say you don't have cancer. As for the fissure if you have had it two years and creams don't work you may have to consider a new course of action.
Fissure 2/13/14 from Colonoscopy
Nitro no help
Nifedipine no help
Botox 5/5/2014 work in progress

I agree with Apes. Your colonoscopy came up clean, and there is no reason to think you have cancer. What triggered this panic? Was there a specific thing, like blood in your stool (really common with internal hemorrhoids)?

What cream did the doctor give you? Do you feel it's helping? It's probably too early to say, as fissures can take a long time to heal.

What else have you tried? Do you eat a good diet and drink enough water? Are your stools soft and easy to pass?
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
