Bummed in Oregon,
I suffered from pregnancy induced hemorrhoids 5 years ago and when I had my son (a month after) I decided to have surgery since nothing I did helped me (creams, sitz baths). I was in pain with them and the recovery was not an easy one, it took 3 months to heal (I had about 4/5 of them removed surgically). I don't know of any other non surgical options... but you might have different options to remove them (laser as opposed to using a scapel). If you are unsure about what the doctor is telling you, then I would suggest that you go to a different doctor to get a 2 or 3rd opinion.
