Only bleed when I am tired

Postby pomonabill221 » 02 Jul 2014, 13:07

My very first post here and I have a question about fissures.

I have had fissures for about40 years (the first bleeding) on and off.

I have had 2 colonoscopies and the doctor said it was a fissure.
The only concern (so far) for me is that I do get a fair amount of blood (more than a couple of drops), but I ONLY get the bleeding when I am very tired.

I am (will be )60 in November 2014, I used to smoke (last puff was 10/10/10 RAY!!!!), and I drink coffee.
Usually a day or two after I get rest, the bleeding stops, but right now I am in class for my job and it is rather stressful and there is alot of travel (about 100 miles a day).

I haven't suffered any pain/nausea/other symptoms so far, although I have in the past and mostly nausea.

Is this something that I should see a doctor about, or is there a danger of this blood loss that will make things worse?
(kind of obvious I know, but I just started this job and insurance and scheduling is very difficult).

Is more info needed about this?

Hi Pomonabill,

Welcome to the site. I understand your concern about the bleeding. I would recommend that you see a colon rectal specialist if you suspect that you have a fissure. The symptoms that you are describing are not typical of a fissure. A fissure can have some bleeding at the time of the BM, and it can bleeding after the BM. Where the fissures are typically located, there are a lot of nerves, and pain is a common symptom during and after the BM. What you are describing sounds more like an internal hemorrhoid as often there is bleeding with no pain. It appears that you are doing a lot of sitting with your travel and both hemorrhoids and fissures can be more active. I know when I am on the road for my job my diet changes and that can also cause issues. You should get it checked by a CRS before it does cause you more problems.
