2 surgeries- no healing

Postby Momma » 08 Jul 2014, 10:55

My son has had 2 surgeries for the same anal fissure. Not doing well. Anyone have any homeopathic remedies? Poor kiddo has been suffering for almost a year!

What surgeries did he have? When was the last one? What has his CRS said.

fissurectomy, sphincterectomy (think I got those right)
Same thing both times.
Second time I asked surgeon if he could use different stitches that would hold better. We thought they may have come undone early. So second surgery he said he used a thicker stitch and sewed tighter.
Before surgeries he was on two different types of creams. Both had to be made by a compounding pharmacy. He has continued to use the cream all along. He is on a ton of fiber supplements and stool softeners daily - also has been on fiber and stool softener for this whole time. First surgery in Feb. Second one in early June. Surgeon says it just is sometimes harder for people to heal. My son is only 18. He is afraid to even eat at this point. Drinks only water and eats fruit and veggies. Has lost weight.

Momma,

I'm sorry to hear that your son is experiencing this at such a young age and that his surgeries have not provided any relief...perhaps he needs more time to heal? Not everyone on here has instant relief...

Generally when LIS fails the next step is an advancement flap surgery.

I agree with Alyssa, give it more time. Stay on a strict diet, and don't stay. The area down there is very sensitive. Make sure his BMS are soft, that is a huge key. Maybe go for a second opinion.
The one thing that has helped everybody here is this forum. Maybe he can get his own user name and post and read. It has done wonders for me emotionally.

Momma - is he taking miralax? Most of us on here take it long term while dealing with our AFs. It is safe and softens the stool, helps a lot.
Developed fissure from constipation due to breastfeeding 7 weeks after delivery (Jan 2014)
Nifedepine
Colace
Magnesium
Miralax - godsend
Nitro - some improvement
LIS (May 2014) - cured for 3 months then setback
Diltiazem
Feeling better for now
