OMB,
When is your surgery scheduled for? I read your whole thread "I'm home!!". It was a great thread that I think all newbies should read. It contained so much useful land informative info from all the members of the forum. I was very sad that in the end you still need surgery.

Well, here I am again.............not doing so well as I'd hoped.
I was fine until I got back from a wonderful vacation in Oregon and California. We were camping, hiking, swimming, white-water rafting, very active and I had no pain, even with 10 mile hikes.

When we got back, I had a bit of stress with house renovations and a dead-line at work. My anus got sore and irritated. Nothing like as bad as the first go-round, but annoying.

Then we went away again, this time to England, to be with my family at the sea-side. Again, we had a wonderful time swimming, hiking, kayaking, just being on the beach with the kids. It was fantastic and I had no pain.

I went back to work, and BAM, pain while on the toilet, soreness afterwards. Discomfort while sitting.
What's going on? I don't feel that stressed at work at the moment, and the house renovations have calmed down. My stools are soft. Too soft, it's like diarrhoea, so could be that?
I also wonder if my computer chair is aggravating the soreness. I switched to a different chair yesterday, am still sore today.

I am considering re-starting nitro. My hot water bottle burst so I need to get a new one. I'll do that today.

Ugh.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Scientist, sorry to here you are having a setback. It seems you have been ok for quite some time. Where you ever told by a CRS that the fissure healed? You have so much experience that you probably know what's best for you, perhaps you should check in the doctor. I hope this is a small short lived setback. Good luck

Hi Scientist,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues. I have had about 10 re-tears and never from diarrhea. I had read that diarrhea can cause a fissure, but I never experienced a tear or re-tear from diarrhea. The diarrhea always would irritate the fissure and make the pain worse. I had noticed sometimes on a re-tear that it would happen with a large stool or firm tip of a stool with some mild BM discomfort and no bleeding, and I would think that there was no issue, but the real fissure pain would start up after a couple of days. If you suspect a re-tear, I would recommend per my CRS that you start the nitro ASAP.

I'm so sorry you're having pain, again!! I would start the nitro, just in case. Hopefully it's only a little irritated and you can prevent it from getting worse.

Also, my fissure had been healing - pain-free for a couple of weeks. A bout of diarrhea tore it wide open, even worse than the first time.

Scientist,
So sorry to hear you're having some discomfort again. I'm crossing my fingers hoping that it's just temporary irritation and nothing to be too concerned about.
You know the drill.... Get back on the program and things will soon ease up!

It's great to hear you've been able to have such a great summer so far, and that you had no problems with all that travelling and activity... That's got to be a positive!

Thanks, OMB. I hope this is short term too.
I do feel very very lucky to have had two wonderful pain-free holidays.............this onset of pain is making me evaluate my life and trying to see where the pain could be coming from.

Stress.
Sitting on my office chair (I have changed to a different chair).
Too much sitting - I was a lot more active on holiday.
Going back to my normal rather high-fibre diet - bulky, loose stools, almost like diarrhoea.
Too much coffee - not dehydration, but caffeine.
edit to add - also, both times I was having pain, I was also on my period. So there's that to think of.
I'm doing better today. Haven't spent much time sitting down, which probably helps.

Hi Scientist...
I'm so sorry you're having problems again. Please try and keep positive and hopefully it will be short lived. Sounds like you had a great holiday though. You will get there, you know what to do now, and hopefully that will make it a little easier. Xxx
