Surgery is behind me

Postby powderblue » 30 Aug 2014, 13:43

I had the LIS surgery yesterday, now it's been about 28 hours and I still have not had my BM. Prior to it I was super regular - one time in the morning and one later in the afternoon, never had a case of going for longer than 24 hours.

Any tips on what I should do? I have no idea as to how painful the new BM experience going to be, but would rather get it over with.

Did you fast or have an enema, or cleanse? Maybe there just isn't anything to evacuate yet? I think it's pretty common not to have a BM for a day or two after a LIS (just going by what I read here).
How are you doing otherwise? I hope it went well!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Powerblue,

Scientist has provided information that is correct. You should not be concerned with no BM until you have passed the 48 hours mark. After my LIS, my doctor had me take a dose of MiraLax with my first two meals and drink a glass of prune juice. I did have a soft BM within 24 hours, but I did get the runs. If you do not have a BM within 48 hours, you should call your doctor for advice.

Would it be a wise decision to try dulcolax either as a suppository or as a supplement?

Powder,

You would be fine taking a dose of a stool softener. You should not use any suppositories as it could cause you issues unless directed by your doctor. Your doctor should have given you directions on a stool softener because they know the strength of the pain meds and pain injection and the expected constipation.

On my procedure if I had it to do over again, I would of only done one MiraLax and a glass prune juice after LIS as I got a sore and raw bottom from the runs, but I did have only minor pain from the first BM.

Well, all that talking about suppositories must've done something for me - I did have my first post-LIS BM!!!

Surprisingly it was not as bad as I was expecting. Now it is time to lay in bed and see if any real pain will set in. Thank you all for your support and advice.

Powder,

That is fantastic news. I hope the fissure pain is a thing of the past for you, but you should expect some discomfort the first two of three days.

my post-LIS BMs were the best I've ever had. Very little pain, and very very easy to get moving, if not too easy... Definitely don't do suppositories at all until your doctor says it's OK. Otherwise, ducolax and stuff should do the trick if necessary. Happy healing.
