New & Frustrated

Postby GuitarMan88 » 30 Oct 2014, 03:08

Hey everyone. Call me Tom. I'm a 26 year old guy from the East Coast and I need some help. It's 4am here and I stumbled across this website. I think I may have a fissure but I'm not sure. I've been dealing with this problem for years now and it has got to be the most uncomfortable ailment I've ever experienced. Not really looking forward to sharing all this but if anyone has some guidance I would be forever grateful. I would say the symptom that is the drives me the most crazy is the intense itching. I mean, we are talking so bad that I have to excuse myself from whatever I am in the middle of doing. Sometimes I'll be walking around the city the and it's so bad I either have to stop or find a private place. I've noticed blood in my stools and it hurts to use the restroom sometimes. I went to a doc years ago and they prescribed cortizone suppositories. These offer slight relief but, hardly. I've used soft toilet paper, witch hazel compresses, unscented wipes, baths, Prep H, etc. It impacts so much of my life - I don't say that to sound dramatic, but as you guys know - this is just so disruptive. To be honest, it makes being intimate with someone stressful as well. I'm over it!!! :( Any advice? I've heard there is a surgery but how does one know if that's what they need? Thanks for any and all guidance you can throw my way. Cheers.

Hi Tom, and :wel: to the place that no one wants to be in but everyone is so pleased to find. :affraid:

What seems to be irritating you the most is the itch, so you might ask your doctor to test for candida. An anal fissure's pain is something you cannot mistake; think birth. This website has some good info. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/168728.php

Bleeding on occasion is not something to worry about. Most everyone has hemorrhoids of one sort or another and they can bleed from time to time.

Personally, I would stop using anything with witch hazel. Often they have alcohol in pads which I think just makes things more sore. Just use water. Never ever rub. Use Cottonelle loo paper, with aloe and Vitamin E. I use plain water and no soap "down there". I get plain sterile gauze pads, wet them, to clean. Again no rubbing.

You could have a less symptomatic fissure, but you need to see a CRS (A colon and rectal surgeon is, by far, the best doctor and believe me they have seen it all...) to be able to get a proper diagnosis.

I expect you know about everythig else - no spicy food, don't get constipated, enough fibre for your height and weight, plenty of water.

There is also loads of information on here. The search facility (between FAQ and Portal above) is fantastic. Also, anymore questions you have just ask, or anything you want to share. TMI is something that can't be on our Forum. We've either heard it or shared it ourselves. So, we are here!

Welcome Tom. Sorry you needed to find us! Glad you did!
What Savaici said. See a colorectal surgeon. You need a specialist.
If you don't get a good diagnosis from a CRS, maybe a dermatologist? Indeed, a fissure causes unbelievable pain, so if you don't have that, it's unlikely you have a fissure. A dermatologist can diagnose an allergy or a skin infection, which could cause an itch. Allergies could be to what's inside (something in your diet affecting your BM) or what's outside (laundry detergent, your underwear).

In the meantime, Savaici is right: nothing but water down there. A shower head is a good way to clean up, if you can do that.

Let us know how you get on!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Again, ditto everything above. You need to see a colorectal surgeon. The itching makes me think it might be related to hemorrhoids.

It would appear that what you have been using so far are all medications used for the treatment of hemorrhoids, so I really do suggest, Tom, that you look further than a hemorrhoid problem with the prolonged intense itching you are experiencing, as I suggested in my reply to you. Have a look at this post from the Cleveland Clinic: Itchy Bottom? Don't Blame Hemorrhoids: http://health.clevelandclinic.org/2013/ ... morrhoids/

Best of luck to you, and let us know how it goes.
