back to square one... :'(

Postby Fissurefrustration » 27 Oct 2014, 13:22

Hi all

*sigh* I'm back at square one and I've got no idea how I've got back here!!
I was at work, had a good BM normal soft stool all fine with no pain, then I put on some witch hazel (a new brand I bought earler) and then straight away it felt as if I rubbed sulphuric acid into 500 cuts down there right on the sphincter and I've got no idea what happened!! I lasted the day and barely got back to my car without passing out. Got home, used the shower to rince off and the pain came straight back and now I'm sat down with tears in my eyes and I just can't do this again!

what do I do?

I had sclerotherapy a few months back for my hemmis and they said there were no fissures.

:(

Oh no! that sounds terrible!
Do you think your new brand of witch hazel might contain alcohol? That might cause horrible burning on a tender area.
Hopefully the pain will wear off soon! Maybe use nothing but warm water for a few days while it calms down.

:smilyhug:
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

:huggies: So sorry that you are in such pain fissure frustration and hope that it will soon be better. I would, after you improve, not use witch hazel. My CRS told me this is very drying and can have alcohol in it, and never recommends it. The only thing I use, and only ever on the exterior, is Vaseline.

Do hope you will be better and over the pain very very soon. :huggies: :huggies:

You're completely right. Had a look at the ingredients - ethanol and menthol are two key parts to the gel with a bit of witch hazel!! I'm so stupid how could I not have checked :-( still in pain today I just want it to go away

I had sclerotherapy injections as a firstline treatment for my hemorrhoids. In my case it made them bleed more which led me to getting the hemorrhoidectomy surgery.

Another CRS told me they prefer to band them as there is more risks with the injections, ie they have to be placed very carefully to no interfere with surrounding structures in the pelvis. For males they have to be careful not to inject into the tissue around the prostate. An article on the Internet I read stated this can cause chronic prostatitis.

I have had a lot of surgery since I had scelerotherapy in an attempt to correct the problems that followed on from it.

What I have been left with is undiagnosed pelvic floor spasm and also a tender internal sphincter.

If no rectal pathology has been found it might be time to look into pelvic floor dysfunction as the cause of your symptoms?

I was told to avoid baby wipes or Tucks (which has witch hazel in it). My doc seemed to think both would irritate more than help. If possible, it was better to use damp toilet paper and dab the area. Afterward, be sure to dab the area dry to avoid the growth of any more infection. If you can’t damp the toilet paper at work, fine. Just do what you can but definitely try to use some soft toilet paper. I use to take my own soft toilet paper to work and it really helped.

Hi all thanks for your advice.

that acute stabbing pain has gone (yay!) however I'm left with almost what I had before. very difficult to describe, it's not fissure pain but imagine a needle in a specific part of your colon close to the sphincter and whenever you walk or turn to look over your shoulder you can feel that pinpoint pain dragging and niggling. it's very specific!

pain on BMS is minimal, with no spasm after so things all seem to be on the up and up. This pinpoint pain is constant though, do you think when I had sclerotherapy the CRS injected into a nerve?
