2nd surgery recovery

Postby ouch4466 » 01 Nov 2014, 02:45

I had my second LIS and fissurectomy a week ago, and have some questions. I looked at the surgery site and there is still quite a bit of swelling /bruising.is this common? I also seem to have a lot of tissue that's hanging out, looks like skin tags. It's pretty red and painful looking. When I looked it started bleeding. Is this all normal? I haven't even doing the sitz bath as often as I should.

And my other question, I have heard a lot of people recommend coconut oil. Is it too soon for me to apply that or would a week out from surgery be ok? I get itchy and some burning at the area where there appears to be skin tags.

I was still pretty swollen and bruised after a week. I tried to look and couldn't really see anything because the area was so swollen. Now, at nearly 2 weeks, everything looks back to normal.

I would ask your CRS about applying anything to the area. Everyone seems to get different aftercare instructions. I've read some members were told not to apply anything. Mine gave me lidocaine to use after my LIS. She said I could use it if I felt the need. A week post op, her nurse called me with my biopsy results and said my doc told her to pass on that I could now continue using nifedipine if it made me feel better. I think it all depends on CRS protocol.

That's good to know that at 2 weeks things looked better. I had my first LIS six months ago and don't remember being this swollen. But he was also more liberal this time, cutting a bit more muscle. And I had a fissurectomy when I had the LIS. I think that area is more sore than the LIS incision. I will ask the surgeon this week if I can apply anything since I have my post op check up. It does seem like a lot of swelling for a simple procedure. Is it generally a lot worse when someone has fissurectomy along with the LIS?

I had fissurectomy at the same time as my LIS. That was my first procedure, so I don't know how they differ when done separately.

I have a few more questions about recovery. I am about two weeks post op. I still have a bright red streak of blood on stool with each BM. It does hurt when I had BM but doesn't have the horrible soreness and spasms afterwards like before I had the surgery. Is it normal to still be having bleeding? I have heard of many people who had no bleeding after a few days. It does stop after, the only blood I see is on the stool and a little when wiping. My other concern is the way everything looks. There seems to be a lot of tissue protruding out. It looks like a hemhorhoid but could be swelling. It's kind of purple. AND there are two skin tags, one on top and one on the side. They are sore and red looking. Do these usually go away on their own? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ouch,

I also had a new skin tag hanging out after my fissurectomy, it does not cause me any issues today after the fissure healed. I would not be concerned about the bleeding after two weeks. You need to quit spreading your cheeks and looking as you are putting pressure on the incision site and fissurectomy cut and you may be contributing to the bleeding. I was told by CRS not to look as I did cause my incision site to bleed from looking.

Would agree with Roidfizz, ouch, that you not worry about the blood, unless it gushes and won't stop. Also, don't worry about the way it looks. Cutting down there will take time to heal, and you will find if you look at some of the older posts on healing, thst it can take up to a year for everything to be 'perfect' down there again. Just concentrate on the fact that by far the majority of members here have moved on with their lives after healing.

Best of luck :smilyhug:

Ouch-please tell me how you are doing? I also had two lis and had 5 weeks fissure free and now it has come back again. I am beside myself. Wondering if I need to see a different crs and ask for a third lis. How are you healing?
