Msimon: I just had my pre-op appointment and I am scheduled for surgery on Friday. I made a last-minute-get-a-second-opinion-appointment with a different surgeon tomorrow. Depending on what he says, I might cancel or I might go through with it. I just don't know.

I agree that the manometry test seems a little inaccurate...what is a "normal" resting pressure anyway...and how sure are they that they got your "normal" when they are only measuring it for a split second when you are very nervous...I agree. It's only a snapshot of what it is at a moment in time, which is why I've never been in a rush to get it, considering how horrible the procedure probably is.

I've had mine for 26 months, since I had a botched hemmie surgery. Tried everything in the book to heal it...can't for the life of me figure out why it's not healing. Neither can any surgeon I've seen. The worst part is, I'm perpetually only a few weeks away from healing. I always feel like I am just around the corner from it healing. And it never works out, and in my head I say "just two more weeks..." because it really is just a little cut. Also, every CRS I have seen here in NY area has never heard of someone failing so many procedures and ops...4x botox, LIS, 2 different flap surgeries, kenalog, many silver nitrates, HBOT...they are all so shocked at what I've tried, and how it could possibly not even have made any progress. It's agonizing, as you well know. Anyway, good luck tomorrow and I only send you positive vibes.

Can I just add.
I saw a pelvic floor therapist for about a year when my fissure first happened. She said that bio feedback therapy to tone my pelvic floor would probably lift pressure from my anus and therefore help my fissure to heal. Have you had anything like this?? It's like an internal tens machine.

The pressure test measures the pressure of the internal sphincter muscle. That is the one we physically have no controll over ( like your heart ).

I wish you luck with whatever you choose xx

You're in a frustrating situation, msimon. It's hard when it's not a straight forward fissure, when you have other pelvic floor issues too. I wish I had a good answer for you.

My pelvic floor therapist didn't say that she had any patients who had side effects from the surgery. Did your gynecologist or pelvic floor specialist have any advice?

Good luck with whatever you decide! I hope everything starts getting better.

Hi msimon. I felt my LIS was not bad at all. I thought it would be a lot worse but it wasn't. And there is such a high success rate with LIS. Mine did not work due to all the scar tissue but had it not been for that I think I would have been healed very quickly. Sending good wishes. Hope this is your chance to heal once and for all

Hi all. Just a quick note to say that I had the LIS today. I also had the skin tag removed and perhaps some hemmies cauterized. Anyone had that done? I am neurotic and had DH take a look down there when we got home and he said that it looks quite swollen all around. Is this normal? I hope to god I will not also have a hemmie problem. Didn't get to see the Doctor after so I have a lot of wonderment about what he found and what he did. Guess I should try not to think about it. Very hard for me to do!

You did it! You're very brave! I know that was a tough decision.

I think it's normal to have swelling from what I've read on this forum. But maybe someone who is post-LIS can comment?

Keep us updated as you heal. I wish you a speedy recovery!
