Please help

Postby Pamplemousse » 26 Nov 2014, 13:19

I'm completely at the end of my tether. I had two fissures but they have been healed for months now, though I’ll occasionally have a twinge of pain plus a small amount of bleeding. But I have been left with an almost constant pressure in my anal area and a feeling that there is something in the anus (I don’t have haemorrhoids), intermittent swelling (which annoyingly has never been present when I have been examined) and a dull, pulling, aching feeling right in the middle of my abdomen. I've had countless DREs, an examination under anaesthetic, an abdominal scan and an MRI scan but the colorectal surgeon cannot find what is wrong. I've also tried various treatment creams that haven't done much. I've been told it is probably psychosomatic, which I don't agree with, but even if it is, I have genuine symptoms that are ruining my life. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or have any advice on what to do? I am so exhausted from the feeling of pressure and the abdominal pain. I am considering going to the urgent care centre tonight because I just can’t cope with this anymore but I’m so worried they’ll tell me it’s in my head and not do anything to help. I just seriously can’t deal with this anymore.

I wish I could help, Pamplemousse, because that just sounds so frustrating. "It's all in your head" has to be the most dismissive and unhelpful thing a doctor can say. The response should be "please can you help me to get it out of my head, because this is ruining my life." I wonder what they would say to that.
Sorry I don't have anything else to offer. I just really hope you get some relief. Nobody knows what this is like until they experience it for themselves.
:hugs:
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Sorry to hear you're in a struggle.
If it makes you feel any better, It sounds alot like the same problem as I have, but I only have the pressure feeling before i get my period. So I'm guessing alot is hormonal for me. You say your fissures are healed, but you have bleeding from time to time? It sounds like it's retearing, and remember it takes months for the skin to get back to normal AFTER it's all healed. Have you considered botox? After getting botox it seems like the pressure has gotten alittle better in my case. Levator Ani syndrome is also something you can look into, but this is a different kind of pressure. I've had Levator Ani syndrome for many years, but only a day every other month or so. This ALSO comes before i get my period. Never knew it was called levator ani syndrome, my doctor just called it 'gas' -.-
Do you also get the sandpaper-feeling in your anus? If you do, its probobly the fissure or scar tissue causing the pain and discomfort. Hang in there, it does get better, just keep doing what you're doing, keep your stools soft and dont strain on the toilet!
Good luck <3

Hello, you should probably start your own topic to ask this question because you will get more answers. I don't know if it is ok to drink alcohol while taking anoheal but someone else might!

I am still having so much trouble with this problem and saw my GP today only to find out I have been discharged by the colorectal surgery team. I feel distraught because I am no better and I can't live with this for much longer. It is so bad tonight and I have called NHS 111. I am just waiting for a doctor from the out of hours service to call me back but thinking I will be going to the walk in centre this evening. I told my GP I am getting abdominal pain and anal discomfort and swelling but he only felt my abdomen. He is usually great but I feel let down today because he didn't seem to believe me and didn't seem willing to discuss the problem. He prescribed me amitriptyline for the pain, but I don't want to take it as I've had it before and it makes me dizzy. I am so sick of this.

I feel your pain, believe me. But try to hang in there. Have you gotten better since you got the fissure? Look at it this way; If it gets better and better, one day you will be completely fine. Thats what I'm holding on to on my bad days.. tht and the fact that I am probobly getting LIS in a few weeks... Because I'm tired of walking around hoping to die because of my asshole -_-
The hardest part about a fissure is that it takes time. Alot of time. If your gp wont listen to you, find someone who will. I had to switch CRS, and FINALLY i found someone who agrees that LIS is the final option.
Best of luck to you <3

Thanks soey. Yes, my fissures are healed now. I have been "healed" for about a year, probably, but I have had constant problems since then.

When I last posted I ended up getting an emergency appointment at my GP surgery the next day. Of course there was no visible swelling, though it felt swollen. And of course the DRE was completely normal. I was given lidocaine, which has done nothing.

Tonight my swelling is the worst I have ever, EVER seen it! It actually looks quite alarming and it feels horrible. I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow so I'm actually hoping it will still be there and he will finally be able to see it. But as a precaution I have taken a photo in case it goes back down again. URGH! It really does not look good and I am dreading going to the toilet! Why is this happening???? I am sooooooooo done with it all.

Is this swelling painful? If so, does the pain reduce when the swelling reduces?
Dec '13 Fissure from anoscope
3 X internal sphincter botox
'08-'15 Botox for pelvic floor dysfunction
Nov '14 LIS/sentinel tag removal
Feb '15 Deroofing of recurrent infection from LIS
summer '15-healed but still ongoing muscle dysfunction/pain
