Tip of the stool is hard

Postby kcvinu » 16 Mar 2015, 02:35

Hi all, i am new to this forum. I have bowel movement in everyday. But 4 days ago i missed a day. Then in the next day, the stool was smewhat hard to pass. After that, i have a little discomfort in my rectal area. And after that, only the tip of the stool is hard and it cause a little pain. But no bleeding. A little discomfort will last for 5-6 hrs. I think softening stool will work.

Edit - My daily routine
9.00 Am waking up
10.00 am Breakfast with rice or wheat
3.00 pm - Lunch with rice and vegetables (plus an egg in some days)
5.00 pm - Evening tea (black tea without sugar)
8.00 pm - Dinner with wheat
1.00 Am - sleeping

Welcome to the forum! I agree with you that softening your stool will help. Fiber and LOTS of water. If you eat white rice, switch to brown!

What is the rest of the stool like? Sometimes we don't realize how hard our stools are getting until they hit the point of causing discomfort, but by then they've alway been too hard for awhile. Healthy stool is supposed to be s - shaped, and not dry or clumpy looking. There's a chart around here somewhere on the Internet... *starts looking for it*
Edit: here it is.

Hi, thanks for reply. As per this chart, tip of my stool looks like #2 and rest is looks like #4. And sometimes it looks like #6. But for last few days, tip is very hard.

No problem! That chart helped me a LOT when my problems started. I realized that I had been spending most of my life constipated and didn't even realize it. XP

Hi Mae - some tips for softening stools -

Magnesium supplements (this is what softened my tip)

Olive oil (spoon before bed)
or coconut oil
Miralax/movicol
Stool softeners from the chemist (Coloxyl etc without senna)
Increase insoluble fibre
Drink lots of water daily

Miralax works great for me. I know you're only to supposed to take it for a week, but I generally need to take it an entire 2 weeks before I can wean myself off it. Hope that isn't bad to do. It just generally takes me awhile to get over constipation fully.

I think Miralax is completely safe for long term use so wean yourself when you can and don't sweat the small stuff!

Hi - you will find them with the vitamins - they are not specifically for stool softening it is just a pleasant side effect for us!

The ones I am using are 400mg magnesium.
