fissure

Postby laban21 » 24 Mar 2015, 23:53

Just created this new profile. I am getting a LIS this April 1st. I'm also getting a skin tag removal with botox. Any advice on how to prepare? ??

Hi laban, I just had my LIS 2 weeks ago too. I stocked up on bum-friendly foods (whole wheat bread for toast, lots of fruit and veg like pears, avocado, sweet potatoes), and also med supplies (like gauze to help control any leakage). I would also recommend getting a shower hose for after a BM if you don't already have one--mine has been a lifesaver! I got one for pretty cheap online that has adjustable flow settings.

How are your BM's? And why do you need a shower hose? Does this have to do with leakage?

Laban, the shower hose is for cleaning after BMs as you DO NOT want to wipe. Gentle water cleaning is best until healed.

But for me I always had trouble taking showers because the water on my fissure would bring me a burning pain. What about dry wipes because putting water there hurts.

Yes, as msimon said, the hose is to avoid wiping. There's no way I would have been able to touch that area for the first two days or so and then a few days after that it was still tender and I was afraid of hurting the incision by wiping. The other problem I had was that I swell very very easily (from even little injuries; I just have sensitive skin), and I was really too swollen to wipe anyways, so the shower helped me feel cleaner. You might want to ask your doctor for his/her recommendation on which is better for you, if you've had burning with water in the past. And to answer your other question, my first BM was a little painful, but not bad at all, and different than the fissure pain (and short-lived). I'm now two weeks out and my BMs have been, dare I say, beautiful?? The last few days every time I go, I'm like :TahDah: I can't believe how easy it is now!

I heard it's not good to remove the sentinel pile before allowing the fissure to heal so should I cancel that part of the surgery and let them just do LIS and botox? And what's the difference between LIS and fissurrectomy? Which one is better?

I had my sentinel tag removed at the same time as my LIS and had no problem with that part. It was quite small though, especially at the base, so it healed up quite quickly. I thought it was better to have it all done at once myself.

I am baffled as to why they would be giving you botox with an LIS. I have never heard of this. They are supposed to do the same thing and it sounds like overkill. Are they botoxing your internal sphincter? I would think it would increase your risk of incontinence.

A fissurectomy is where they 'freshen' up a chronic fissure by removing scar tissue from it. A build up of scar tissue can result when you have a chronic fissure that cycles between healing and tearing. There isn't always a need for this. I didn't have scar tissue on mine, so my CRS left it alone. The thought is that it will facilitate proper healing by making it a fresh/new wound again with improved circulation. It could make recovery a bit more rough in the beginning but I think sometimes it is necessary to in order to heal properly.

Yeah I have scar tissue around mine and my doc said they're going to cut off the scar tissue. I don't know if it's the best idea. Is there anyone on here who got the scar tissue cut off and didn't do the LIS? I'm just worried about bowel movements after LIS. Will I always have leakage? Will I accidentally crap myself especially if I need to have diarrhea? Basically what's the worst that can happen after all these procedures?
