My Anal fissure remedy routine

Postby HighFiberActivist » 15 Mar 2015, 12:37

Hi All,

Thank you very much for this forum and everyone who post their solution. It helps me a lot. So I also want to share my experience and remedy in detail as much as possible.

I am 27 female. It all started when I had my first and worst UTI. I was prescribed with antibiotic for 5 days which change my BM habit. I do not usually have constipation but one day, I happened to pass something hard on my stool. My stool is not in big bulk, but something hard or like a glass or maybe bone or seed was on it. Then after that, every time i have my BM, I am in pain, like knife-slicing pain after passing a stool. I did not take it seriously at first until I have blood after passing a stool. I panicked, did some research. I thought it was cancer but I think it is either anal fissure or hemorrhoid. It took me 4 weeks before I have a courage to consult a doctor as I don't want someone poking on my butt :D :D . And I want to confirm what it was as the pain is getting worse and worse.

I was given something for the inflammation, procsedyl cream and stool softener. I was told to prevent constipation at all cost and have a high fiber diet. This is my journey to my remedy:

For the first two days:
I was depressed. But I changed my diet. I have fruits and vegetable diet. I took the stool softener, prosedyl religiously. I did not take the medicine for inflammation as I know that I can still take the pain, I just dont want to cause anymore problem with my stomach. I have a sensitive stomache. I noticed that the stool softener create rumbles in my stomach and causes some pain. I stop using it after two days, as I know it might create some problem in the future. I took prosedyl cream religiously instead. :groan:

For the next five days and counting:
I make a list of every food I ate. I do some research of all the food that soften stool. For fruits, I took, papaya, watermelon, wintermelon, mango, and apple on day at a time. I know that every stomach reacts differently. For my case, apple cause me hard stool so I stop eating it. Papaya makes my stool mushy. For vegetables, I ate bitter gourd, winter gourd, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, papaya, chayote. It all makes my stool soft specially broccoli and cauliflower. My meal is always with rice, pasta and bread before. I changed it to multi grain one, brown rice, multigrain or vegetable pasta and multigrain bread. It is hard to transit to a strict and straight days of high fiber diet so I also ate chicken, fish and meat. But when I do, I make sure I have the ratio of rice/pasta:meat:vegetable:fruits to 1:1:2:1. I also drinks lots and lots of water. I read that transition to high fiber may cause constipation specially to multi-grain and oats, so drinking a lot of water will help. I also drink prune juice after every meal. I hate its bitter aftertaste but I take it at small portion by one small cup. I love chocolate and I ate dark chocolate once in a while. It also soften stool, but avoid the sugar.

For the treatment, I always have BM first thing in the morning that I have no time to prepare my anus. When I eat a lot, I have BM in the morning and evening. At the first day of my medication, I noticed I have a very rough first stool to pass even though the next coming stool are soft and mushy. I am still in pain and it still leads to bleeding. I though that lubricating your anus and rectum is one of the important thing to do. Something that my doctor did not tell me. So from my research, I tried coconut oil as they said it has antiseptic property, why not use it for lubrication as well. I lubicate my outer skin, then my hand, then inside my anus. It is gross, but I know I need to do this. At first 2 days, it was still bleeding, I could feel my fissure as series of small cuts 1-inch deep from the outside. The next days, I tried to lubricate more. More is good. Then after my BM, I clean and put coconut oil again. I do this for lubrication so when I put procsedyl cream it would go in smoothly. I do this in the morning and evening.

Lessons learned
1. Be patient. Be very very patient.
2. Follow doctors advice but also follow what your body needs.
3. High fiber diet is a must. No shortcut. Perseverance is the key.
4. Eat something you love once in a while. If it doesn't soften stool, eat lots of fruits and vegetable. I love chocolates, I ate dark once and it soften my stools. :D
5. Do not lose hope. Do not get depressed for too long. Read this forum, then move on.
6. Have someone or family to share your transition in diet. When I cannot take the vegetables and fruits anymore, my fiance will eat the same food I eat for every portion. It makes me feel better. :D

Now, I am on my 4-day streak with no blood and pain is getting less and less. I plan to continue on my routine for the coming months. I know that we should prevent constipation at all cause. I plan to stop the cream after one week, as I read that it cause thinning of the skin lining. But I plan to continue on the coconut oil. I hope this will help someone as it helps me a lot. I will give update after a few months. God speed to all of us.

Hello! I am a 29yr old female and dealing with my very first horrible fissure. I think it's already chronic due to the fact that I have a sentinel pile. Is your fissure acute or chronic? And how long have u been dealing with it? I also waited forever until the pain was so bad that I HAD to see a doctor! I've just started my high fiber diet about 4 days ago. So far I've had lots of gas and little poops which made my bum feel better, but sore, all day yesterday. It gave me hope. Then I went poop today and was paralyzed to my bed in so much pain for almost 4 hours. Finally I was able to get up out of the bed but pain is still there. (A few days prior the pain was so bad after my poop, it lasted for almost 12hours) so I'm not sure if this means I'm sort of improving (even though after I poop I feel like my fissure splits open again.) my CRS prescribed me 2%nifedipine and 5% lidocaine. Since u mentioned that long time use can be bad, I'm kinda worried I should stop even though the nifedipine makes me feel better. Any comments to this reply? Or any advice for me? Thanks!

12 years suffering with anal fissure on and off had several Botox , fistula opp , removal of sentinel tag and polyp . I take statins daily

This used to be my daily routine .Wake up Coffee , BM with sitz bath straight after use dialtiazem to stop spasm I only used perfumed wipes as these were all that was available in the “ok to flush” range if pain remained still which it usually did use paracetamol . Breakfast like readybreak with some sort of fruit non acidic and try to drink 7 glasses of water try to avoid sitting too long I use Laxido/movicol daily with or before my evening meal . My stools were bad in that they were getting thinner and were poorly formed especially after the fistula opp it felt like I was trying to force a large cucumber through a hula hoop I can laugh but it’s no fun after straining and popping my eyes to force the stool out . Everyone knows the moment when you know you’re going to get pain after squeezing too hard . my Stools were loose and due to the stenosis I had to keep cleaning to clear trapped poop which I hated the most as it would exaggerate the pain .

Now after I discovered all the above was caused by my weak anal muscles and sphincters

Wake-up , morning prayer , squeezing pelvic exercises holding for 10 seconds 5 times and during prayer , coffee with one spoon optifibre (Amazon ) doesn’t change the taste or consistency of the coffee , BM , Wash area with warm water so stopped using wipes after I saw that they can make your skin too dry . After or before breakfast take my probiotics , do my chair exercises with I can feel targeting the area where I used to get pain after BM on the way to work still squeezing and making muscles stronger whilst driving small bursts whilst breathing through. At work do more chair exercises nearly every few hours and at least 2-3 sessions of squeezing and holding for 10-15 seconds 10 rounds each at work during my break or whenever I feel . Probiotics after or before meal . By the Grace of God I have been pain free for over three weeks I have not used any ointments and had only a few precautionary sitz baths . My stools have started to form to perfection and my BM are quick and without any trapped poop all these years no doctor , specialist or phycian ever advised of weak pelvic and anal muscles yet it was so obvious that after all the operations and ointments which were all meant to relax the sphincter you were left semi paralysed just like Ant other muscle you need to keep the sphincter strong together with your anal and pelvic muscles . Now I’m no doctor but I reckon that because I am squeezing over a 100 times a day it’s either strengthening my sphincter , puberetic muscle (the sling ) and pelvic muscles to deal with my BM or it’s tiring out the muscles which is why I’m not spawning anymore . Three weeks in and the only small pain I have had is some pain after I know I had some food with chillies people on this group will know that the pain of the fissure is soo different from normal acidic or chillis poop pain

I really hope I can try to help people achieve there pain free summit and it is a mountain to climb but don’t give up keep at it you will recover but be persistent and maintain healthy eating with loads of fibre and water and for god sake take pain killers don’t be a martyr , pain killers are not the best thing but if your ok to take them for that week or so where you are trying to maintain soft stools or fighting a flare up just take them and make it easy on yourself .
