I need off this ride

Postby hurtinend » 07 Aug 2015, 19:34

Wow the last 6 months....return of the fissure and pain, some days horrible other days okay, most of the time....bad, like a deep toothache.

Bouncing around docs and so called specialists. The most recent general surgeon seemed okay but offered nothing more than bleach baths and telling me I'll be just fine....okay but he told me I had a fissure yet offered nothing more as far as getting rid of it. Take the diltiazem....next visit......nah you don't need that it won't help

Ok....I said...fired I'm done with that

This week ended up back at my family doc, told him my plight. He said lets get to the root, I will refer you to a crs I know.

Good, so I already have a colonoscopy scheduled for end of September, good. Meanwhile I'm back on nitro cream

I have days where I feel like I cannot go on, nothing I've tried helps long term, and trust me, I've tried everything.

I hope the colonoscopy confirms the fissure and whatever else. I am barely working, it's so hard, half my day I'm in lots of pain following my daily morning soft and easy bm.....no straining, in and out in less than 1 minute....the pain starts about 20 minutes later....throbbing, spasm, slight burn....am I nuts have I lost my mind.

Have you tried anal dilation? It took me nearly a year of doing it, and my bowels are not as they once were, but at least I do not have the excruiating pain.

I hope that you can also get a consultation appointment with that CRS. My CRS does regular appointments (consultations) with his patients one day a week, teaches at university one day a week, does surgery one day a week, and does "scopes" on another. When he does the colonoscopy, he's not there to discuss other anal issues, so I'm not sure that your CRS would be either. I have exams and discussions when I have regular appointments, but when I've had colonoscopies (several, because I have a family history of bowel cancer), everything is just set up to get mine done and then on to the next. My fissure was also never visible on the colonoscopy (or discussed), and not even on the sigmoidoscope (this procedure was actually done after a consultation, in order to see what was going on up there), which examines the very lowest part of the rectum. I would hate for you to wait for this appointment and then be utterly deflated if he just wants to do the scope to rule out cancer in the large intestine, and doesn't really know much about your fissure issue at all, because he hasn't had a consultation appointment with you yet.

My CRS may not be like yours however, but maybe you should call his office and speak with the secretary to see if he does colonoscopies like an assembly line and consults with patients at separate appointments or does them both together.

Very sorry to hear about all that you've been through, and I hope that you can get this all sorted out soon.

Thank you for the great advice

No idea what I'm in for, didn't expect my first appointment to be an 8 am colonoscopy, yikes. I did call the office but got voicemail......9 calls varied through the day, I don't think they actually ever answer. Yikes.

I have not tried or looked into dilation, but I will.
