I am a total AF newbie, but have my experience...

My AF started July 4, and I did everything I could to help myself. Tylenol and other pain meds. Coconut oil. Tucks pads. Fiber diet. And yet, the spasms continued.

August 17, I saw a CRS (colo-rectal specialist) and he took one look, confirmed an AF, and told me that mine was a good tear and surgery was the only fix.

My suggestion - go find a CRS. They can tell you more than a forum can. They know what questions to ask and what to look for. Then they can treat. Hopefully, yours is new and minor and can be treated without the surgery. If not, don't be scared - I'm 9 days post-op and doing well. Slower than normal, but well.
