Hi all, been a while

Postby hurtinend » 22 Dec 2015, 15:55

Hi all,

Have not posted here in several months....not much to say, despite much effort over a long period of time (years), still having pain. Have decided I must live with this and try to manage this evil, wheres the wings and beer?

By the way, finally saw a butt specialist, told me to use Diltiazem 5 times a day for 6 weeks, and said ""hope u get better", sure I said, Diltiazem is my best friend, haha.

All the best.

Hurt intend -

Welcome back friend. So sorry to hear that you are still dealing with pain.

Pls remind me - did you ever explore surgery? Do you take any softener? Is your pain today the same level as it was say one or two months ago?

It is a very long road to travel - one that we would all rather avoid...I am glad to see that you still have your wit and sense of humour and irony...please visit here more often and let us know how you are doing.

Best -

Hi Canadabum,

Explore surgery....not sure how that would happen, specialist I saw was a gastroenterologist, he told me straight out out that he was making sure I didn't have cancer.....then after the insanely painful digital rectal exam, he said I have a fissure. He prescribed diltiazem 5 times a day and colace stool softener. The colace does make bm softer, but I cannot say pain has decreased, and the diltiazem stings.

These specialists here are so busy, surgery was never suggested. Follow up in February. My family doc said he was referring me to crs, but it turns out this specialist is a general surgeon/gastro specialist. Oh he also told me no coffee, tomatoes, hot spice or alcohol.

Vancouver, great city but doctors here are stretched to the max, every office I go to is backed up, there is no time for conversation. I waited months to see him, when I left, there were at least 15 people waiting....crazy.

Hi Hurtinend. Here I am again!! Also living in Canada, I know how hard it is to get into a CRS. I saw 3 family doctors over a period of 7 months with no help in sight and a series of misdiagnosed things. Finally a CRS was able to diagnosis a deep anal abscess which requires surgery. Like you, I spent months on end with the extreme pain. I feel for you, as this has gone on far too long. The right doctor is a CRS. I also thought that I would live in the extreme pain forever. Hopeless to say the least. 4 weeks post op and I am still not up to par but I cam almost function again. I think back and wonder how much longer I could have lived like that. Can you get back to your doctor and get an appointment with a CRS?

Thank you....frustration doesn't begin to summarize how I feel, I was told I was referred to a crs, but he is a general surgeon, specializing in gastroenterology. Honestly I have given up, I could pay privately and see a crs, at about $ 2,000.00 CDN dollars - thats just to get a diagnosis.
The digital rectal exam was very painful, and has now set me back further. No more meds, no more creams, no more anything. Done.

The doc I saw who was great was also a general surgeon who specialized in this area of the body. I don't think we have a CRS designation in Canada - rather we have general surgeons who specialize.

Have you tried diltiazem before...if you have and it didn't work perhaps try nifedipine. It will do you no harm to use it - and it will lower the rest I g pressure of your internal sphincter.

I get your frustration, I get that you are feeling at your wits end...but I think you owe it to yourself and your future self to continue with the cream, good eating, water, heating pads and baths. But most of all...go see the doc - make sure they have a good reputation -- and discuss surgery. I have read so many great success stories from those who have done the surgery...don't discount that avenue as most seem to have seriously benefitted from the procedure.

Keep us posted.

Yes have used diltiazem in the past, but was never told to use it 5 times a day...kind of stuck for now, so I will use it as prescribed. If there is no improvement come February, I will ask about surgery.

Yes it seem Canada has changed designations for doctors. My specialist has many letters after his name.

Biggest frustration is the roller coaster, I never know from one day to the next how I will feel. Today is a good day.

I'm in Calgary, Alberta. The doctor who finally helped me is a CRS. They do exist in major cities. I was referred by a family doctor to a General surgeon. I never heard back from that. Then I got in to a CRS. Seeing the CRS was my saving grace. Ask your doctor to sent you to one, not a General surgeon.

I thought I was being referred to a crs....will get back to my family doc and try again

So frustrating, months, years roll by with no resolution. I find that doctors are mostly concerned with life threatening illness. This specialist I saw was focused on making sure I did not have cancer, including prostate....too much info, I know. He seemed knowledgeable regarding fissures, but it was my first visit to him, so onto the Diltiazem protocol yet again.
