Does the pain ever stop?

Postby BetsyRay » 03 Mar 2016, 12:59

I'm new here, though have lurked for a few weeks now, hoping for some encouraging bits. Treated what I thought was hemorrhoids at home for 3-4 months. Finally went to dr. and was diagnosed with AF. Tried adding baths and wet wipes after every BM for two weeks, then added nifedipine salve about three weeks ago. Got norovirus a few days into that and, frighteningly, that is the most pain-free I have been in months. Probably because I was off work and could soak in the tub for 20-30 after every single one of my loose stools. As soon as I was over the norovirus, the pain returned. Doc says another week with salve before checking back in for possible referral to colorectal specialist. I am so tired of the pain. I have use stool softeners for over 10 years, get plenty of fiber and water, not so good on the exercise (but working on it). My stools have not been the least bit hard in the past three weeks, but still the PAIN. Please tell me it gets better.

Hi BR. I recently joined too, but am no newbie to AF's. Sorry to hear of your struggles... Keep up with those bath soaks. Nifedipine didn't work for me, but Diltiazem is. I also noted that the Diltiazem took me 2-3wks to start to work on me. Also, most compounded pharmacies use the yellow ointment and that typically has Lanolin in it, which is made from sheep's wool and I am sensitive too. So watch out for that! Watch out for the wet wipes, as some can aggravate your fissure. I just TP and hop into the tub for the cleaning. Hang in there!
