Re: Nerve Pain

I wish I could tell that but I had LIS first and it failed. Apparently the tearing and rehealing of the fissure over and over coupled with the hemohrroid surgery I had many years before created a lot of scar tissue. Scar tissue doesn't stretch that's why I couldn't heal. Had 2 flaps done almost 3 years ago and things are better, just had to adjust to a new normal. I don't have the itchiness but if you're using any kind of creams that can cause it. I was allergic to certain toilet tissues too. I do pretty well pain wise. I can still get really irritated in that area and because of the skin grafts the area is super sensitive but I try to take it a day at a time. You should have healed by now, what does your doctor say. Is you muscle more relaxed after the LIS or does it still hurt to have a bm? I wish I could help more. I'm still finding my way sometimes. Just don't give up on yourself. See more doctors if you have to, someone should be able to help you. Remember they're probably not going to make you 100% but they should be able to get you to a better place then you're at now. All the best Suzy.

I don`t have pain when on a BM. Pain with sitting I manage with donuts cushions. No itchiness when I lie down. The problem is when I move - the itchiness is there all the time - do you have that when moving Suzy?
I`m trying to understand your situation right now - you`re talking about "new me" and that you don`t have the pain anymore at least most of the time. When do you have the pain then?
I imagine itchiness is from scar tissue or bruised nerved resulted from LIS - and just needs more time to calm down - at least I hope so. I`ve seen many specialists - they confirm fissure is seen no more and is replaced by what they call a bruised area.

You shouldn't be sitting on donuts, my CRS says it causes the butt cheeks to spread and can tear open a fissure, sit on a solid soft cushion if you have one.
I get pelvic floor pain, don't know why. It causes the muscles to spasm and I get the feeling of a full bladder or a stinging sensation in my butt. If I've had diarrhea or many bms a day it can happen and sometimes I really don't know why it happens. What helps me is miralax. It keeps things soft and moving and sometimes when things are uncomfortable I increase it a bit and it helps. It may sound weird but I can't wear undies that are too tight anymore. They cut into the surgical area and hurt like the devil. I also asked my doctor for flexeril. I know some have tried it and it didn't help them but it seems to relax my pelvic floor muscles just enough to stop the spasming. I don't use it much but it's good to know I have it. I waited 5 years after my LIS before I went back to a doctor for help. I was lucky to find a very good CRS with a great bedside manner. It really is true that the achy feeling you're getting can last a long time. I was told at least 2 years. The discomfort changed all the time. I feel your frustration though. There are times I just plain panic when I get the least bit of pain there. It's a pain you can't really describe. Have you ever tried sitting on a warm heating pad. I found that worked better than sitz baths. Another cause for itchiness is if the area is kept too moist. It's all really trial and error. Try different things to see if they help. Another thing I forgot to mention, I dilate once a day. It helps so much. If you're having discomfort sometimes if you dilate it makes things feel better. Suzy

Great post Suzy.... If you ask the average Joe what is the controlling factor for a human being. Most will say the soul or the mind or the heart. Those of us that have had anal surgery know the truth about what controls us. I have had broken bones and other surgeries, nothing even comes close to the pain I felt after anal surgery. Good to know that time heals all wounds. But SurvivorX if you are still in misery a year after you should seek another opinion.

Hey Suzy

Thank you for the post.

I wanted to bump this thread and see if your situation has improved or if anyone has found any additional information on reducing inflammation, tightness, and nerve damage in this sensitive area.

Fantastic post Suzy. I had my Lis 13 months ago and my fissure finally healed but I still have that burning pain and my GI confirmed it is the nerves that are irratated. Had colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and all normal so that was reassuring. I to take flexeril and I also have diazepam as well. 2 excellent muscle relaxers and they help alot. I also use a heating pad that plugs into my cig lighter so I can drive ok. I still have bouts with hemorrhoids that bleed on occasion and thats due to passing a not so soft one which is my fault for not sticking to the program. Now its 1 capful of Miralax every morning along with stool softner. Prep H for the hemorrhoids with the applicator which keeps the anal canal moist making it easier to pass. I can sit but not for long periods hopefully that will get better with time. I agree alot of trauma has been put to my anus 5 hemmys banded and AF. Thats alot . I keep hoping that one day I can go completely pain free.
