I have had my AF for just over a year and finally buckled down and had the procedure done.
Are you having, or have you had a Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy (LIS)? Please share your experiences here, or ask any questions.

I'd like to help those who are suffering with AF's and offer them guidance. Feel free to ask me anything.

I was wondering if you could get up out of bed and make small meals as I have an autistic son who cannot go anywhere else, I'm seeing a surgeon tomorrow but all the online stuff seems to say you will be fine the next day...was wondering if that's true
Hope your well and the agony of these awful things is going
Thanx

Immediately after the operation I was able to hobble around the house if I needed anything. I didn't take any pain killers and the pain was only 5 out of 10. Maybe 6. It was definitely possible for me to make it to the kitchen and stir something up but it was very uncomfortable to do so. Lying down on my stomach and side made the pain dissipate slightly. I wouldn't recommend bending over or squatting down to reach something in the fridge. The next day (after a crummy sleep) I was walking around no problem with only 2 or 3 out of 10 on the pain scale, again without taking any pain relievers at all. Keep in mind this was my personal experience. Everyone takes the operation differently. Make sure you have an EXPERIENCED surgeon that performs AT LEAST 40 of these specific surgeries a year.

Thanx George...the surgeon I'm going to see specialises in inflammatory bowel diseases so I will be asking him how many of these surgeries he has done.
Oh don't worry I wouldn't hold you to the time scale...I'm just not in a position where I can stay in bed...although will be able to retreat to it for a couple of hours (thanx to the Xbox)
I was just wondering wether it would be better to wait until September when my son is in college 4 hours a day if the recovery is quite hard

No worries. Compared to the pain of the fissure the surgery was a walk in the park. It's just annoying and uncomfortable for a few days. Good luck with your decision!

The first day might be a little hard to do everything a parent handles (thank God for my wife) but I was able to get up and about pretty good that first day and by the second day it was no problem at all to perform most normal duties. Mind you there was still some pain but mostly it was discomfort from day 2 onward. I am 5 weeks post LIS now and this was DEFINITELY the right decision for me.
